One more thing I've been wondering about with WD's disk with 8mb cache is how they do in a raid setup....

Hm I was thinking of the power supply as well ...

Anyway I can check this ?

I don't know the brand, it has 350W

I have 2 disks, 2 cdroms and 1 case fan.

Do you think it would help if I plugged in the third aux power plug on the Mobo ?

Wow this disk scared the **** out of me last night !

I hooked it up to a spare IDE cable and an IDE cdrom(WD800JS master; cd:slave), booted from winXP CD installed it and turned off the pc.

I removed my old disks, installed the new one (without the cdrom) and pressed the power button : NOTHING HAPPENED !! (Sweat breaking out, what did I do wrong ?!?)

Took the whole system apart again, installed the old disk removed all unnecessary devices still nothing !

After a while I saw that I had pulled the cable from the powerswitch to the board (STUPID!!).

Plugged it back in and the system booted.

So I installed everything again, booted the system and ....
A friendly voice told me : "NO IDE HARDDISKS DETECTED"

*** ??!?!

Took the whole lot apart again, tried the other IDE slot, other cable ... Still nothing.

After beating my head against the wall, I had a moment of clarity.
And hooked the cd back to the IDE cable. result : harddisk detected.

Put the jumper to cable select, removed the cdrom and it still detected it

At last my WD800JB was running and very fast I must say.
Only the installation took me a bit longer than expected !!

Thumbs up

Congrats, WD jumper settings are slightly different than other hdd., they like to confuse you with that.
But these are the best hard drives you can get.
