my work is building/testing/repair pcs
and i can say that IBM fitness is TOP NOTCH software...

It can diagnose even non IBM drives, recognizes almost
all scsi cards and onboard/pci IDE RAID and the advanced test
is really affidable and fast (30min for an 80gb hd)
very good piece of software

Quite, when I'm at work I almost always use IBM Drive Fitness Test (all out HP's seem to have IBM's in them) and also a copy of Drive Wipe Professional (scrubs HDD's to American DOD security standards)

Well done to Kongo on the page of links as well

Great links, kONGO...never noticed this thread before.

I agree with the idea of a "favorite threads"....but maybe we should have a link for it over on the left with the "Top 10", "Most Popular Articles", etc.... and just have a web page with links to the "favorite threads", then we could also stop having half a page of sticky threads in some forums. Hmmm....Maybe I'll go post this idea in the feedback forum.

Powermax 4.06 recognises SATA drives when they work.

I have the same problem but am beginning to suspect the motherboard or RAID controller

ASUS A7N8X deluxe
Two off 120GByte Maxtor 6Y120M0 drives.

The Maxtor Powermax program is not available this date. The link works, the Powermax web page is down.

Just to finish off my story both maxtor drives were instantly recognised when I disabled (by mobo jumper) the SATA controller and added a pci 2xSATA card. Funny thing is that the controllers are bothe Si3112's.

The pci card doesn't seem to have RAID capability but I just backup the C: to the D: drive whenever I have time.

I will return the mobo when I can do without the pc for a month.

Can anyone tell me if you get a Gaming performance hit by turning S.M.A.R.T. on or not?

Thanks,
