Hard Drive Interface Question I was testing the drives in the 875PBZ computer in my sig with HD Tach 2.51. In the "Info" section, this is what I got for my two SATA 150 drives: Standard: ATA/ATAPI - 7 Supported: UDMA Mode 6(UltraATA 133) Active: UDMA Mode 5(UltraATA 100) I'm assuming this means my SATA drives are running off my motherboard at ATA 100 speed? Could it be the HD Tach program or have I missed a major hard drive setting in my BIOS or something?

No, and it makes absolutely no difference. SATA drives don't use DMA, so it makes no difference what UDMA it is seen as, however Windows may "see" data about the drive.

Thanks PCB-Maybe I should quit poking around. I have a bad habit of thinking "hey, lookie here, maybe we can make this run a little better". There must a point that you shouldn't fool around with stuff anymore, but I haven't found that point yet.

No problem, you don't know, so you ask. It just as easily could have been something that needed to be fixed. Poking around is how you learn.

I learned the PATA 100 Seagate drive I've got has a better data transfer rate than either of my Maxtor SATA drives. I used a lot of Maxtor drives, but it's Seagate from here on in. Thanks again.

One time I was so obsessed about cooling my system that I kept adding and moving fans and heat ducts until I finally broke a capacitor off my video card. That's when I knew I was done

Like most people here, I can't seem to stop messing around with my computers. I do work on them, like video editing, but that takes a lot of time. Running a few tests on components or buying a part or two online only takes a few minutes and is fairly entertaining. Keeps me out of trouble(for the most part).
