Hard drive question

I bought a new Samsung 160 GB hard drive and want to hook it up along with the 20 GB hard drive I already have in my computer. However, I don't have an available hard drive ribbon cable adaptor to plug into it.

Can anyone please provide a solution for this problem that I have?

check on your 20GB HD ribbon cable... hopefully it has a total of 3 connectors. If not... gonna have to wait to get an extra cable. No other way around it! good luck.

on your sig you show 2 opticals plus your 20GB, you should have room for one more drive!

Never seen any "extensions" for ATA cables. And if you do find one... remember to not exceed 18", after 18" your data is more susceptible to corruption.

If you have a spare PCI slot you can add a Promise Ultra 133 TX2 controller card for about $35. It will support up to four hard drives and its onboard BIOS will recognize just about any size hard drive (no 137 GB barrier).

Since you already have 4 devices, your only option is to go with an external USB case, or install a Promise Controller Card. You can get one for $34 at: http://bestbargainpc.com/prultx2pciid.html Then I would put all your hard drives on the controller card and leave the optical drives on your ide ports. By having one of your optical drives on with your existing 20 GB HD, you are probably loosing some performance.

You could also remove the TDK 48X CD burner since I'm sure your CyberHome 16x DVD burner will also burn CDs at probably 48x. Then you would have room for the new 160 GB HD.
