HD Install Prob

Hi all.

I have two 80 Gig Western Digital drives set up as RAID 0 on an ASUS P4C800E-Dlx and working perfectly. Now I want to add a 40 Gig IDE drive for some extra storage, data backups, etc.

Problem is, when I connect the IDE drive, the sytem wants to boot from it. Also, with the IDE drive plugged in, the Intel RAID volume disappears from the list of bootable devices in the BIOS and the only HD in the boot list is the IDE drive. When I un-plug the IDE drive , everything goes back to normal. I've tried all combos of jumper settings on the IDE drive and I've tried those combos on both Primary and Secondary IDE ports. Nothing changes the situation.
Surely what I am trying to do is not impossible. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

There are 3 settings you need to change/look at (if memory serves). I hope I get this right as I'm going from memory.
1 - IDE config in first BIOS screen
2 - Is the boot device priority under boot menu.
3 - Is the Boot settings config in the same screen

If this doesn't help let me know and I'll reboot and write down my settings (after lunch )

Thanks for the reply.

Here are my BIOS settings for the areas you mention:

IDE Configuration
-------------------------
Onboard IDE Operating Mode = Enhanced Mode
Enhanced Mode Support On = S-ATA
Config Sata As RAID = Yes
Serial -ATA BOOTROM = Enabled
IDE Detect Timeout (Sec) = 35

Boot Device Priorty
---------------------------
1st Boot Device = Intel RAID_Volume1
All else disabled

Boot Settings Configuration
---------------------------------------
Don't see anything here to do with hard drives.

If you could have a look at your settings and let me know, that would be great.

Thanks.

OK, I was off, my memory must be failing me (see what happens when you get older?!)
Lets try this:
1 - plug in the 40 gig drive and reboot into BIOS setup
2 - Go to the BOOT section then down to Hard Disk Drives and set the order there.
3 - Back in the BOOT section, Boot Device Priority set desired order.

Been there, done that.
As pointed out in my original post, whenever I plug in the 40 Gig IDE drive, the RAID array no longer shows up in the hard drive section of the BIOS boot list. The only drive shown there is the IDE drive. If I un-plug the IDE drive, the RAID array is back in the list and everything is fine again.

Thanks for the help but I'm stilll puzzled.

OK. I've solved my own problem.
I've set up many systems but I never had to do this before:

Downloaded and installed Western Digital's Data Lifeguard utility.
Ran the "Setup New Drive" option.

After doing that, all drives show up in the boot list and all is OK.

Thanks anyway for the help.
