| Highpoint RR1520 controller trash does anyone have the HPT RR1520 controller? its impossible to get this thing to work properly on a Intel 875PBZ motheboard. i have 2 SATA hdds connected to the onboard intel sata controller, 2 opticals connected to the the onboard ide controller.. and now i put in a HPT RR1520 controller cuz i have an additional 120gb hdd. the second i plug in the hdd into the HPT when i boot XP the os hangs for 3-4 mins before it loads, and then when i try to copy a file from another hdd to this one it uses 100% CPU and its extremly slow like 2-5meg/sec.. im sure its running in PIO mode or something equally slow HPT incompetents havent been able to help me at all. this reminds me of an older promise ide controller card.. same deal there |

| Brand / model of HDDs? Jumpers set as? Type of array? (stripe size if applicable)? What PCI slot is the card in? How is PCI-IDE busmaster set in BIOS? How is PCI Latency Timer set in BIOS? Drive cache setting in Windows? You review all the HP RAID BIOS settings? Have you tried running the system with ICH5R RAID disabled?

both hdds on the intel ICH5-R are set as stand alone.. and btw SATA has no jumpers i tried all PCI slots with same effect, OS hanging and PCI Bus mastering is enabled in the bios but that shouldnt matter.. pci latency is set to the default of 32 in bios and im using latest bios/drivers for both mobo and pci card and still no go | |

| Actually these goofy WD Raptors have jumpers. Go figure. You might want to list your hard drive brands and model as its been known int he past for certain drives to not play friendly with certain PCI controller cards. Id probably also suggest setting your PCI latency timer to 64 to speed things up. However I dont think that alone will solve a prblem as severe as youre seeing. It almost seems yoru drives are operating in some pseudo PIO mode. But not being familiar with your PCI cards BIOS, I cant really say where to start. Maybe someone else will have some ideas, maybe its just incompatibel HDDs. But ya got me stumped
