Hitachi SATA-II drives - Anyone using them?

Still waiting on my Supermicro 733T-450 case with hot-swap SATA drive bays. HAven't purchased the drives yet but am considering the Hitachi SATA-II 3.0Gb/s drives with NCQ.

Has anyone had experience with them and was it good or bad?

Second choice would be Seagate SATA-I 1.5Gb/s drives with NCQ. Same question?

Two In SATA RAID 0

I have 2 x 80 Gig in SATA RAID 0 on my DFI NF4 Ultra D which has a SATA II controller.

You must get Hitachis Ftool in order to flip the switch on the drives to SATA II as they come set for SATA l

I LOVE them.....

VERY---VERY fast

VERY---VERY cheap

Quiet

Not hot

I think the very expensive Maxtors outperform them----but only by the smallest of margin.

You just can't beat the performance for the price....

Good luck-----John

Used a Hitachi SATA_II 80 gig on the system I just built for my sister, $58.50! did not get to get to do any speed tests or crunching big files as she wanted it ASAP! But it did seem to be faster than my old ATA drives. Sound of it was quite OK, pretty quiet, and run luke warm as do current fluid bearing drives do. no unusual sounds, do hear the heads seeking as you would hear in a Maxtor drive, but not as loud. Just my opinion. Put it on an EPOX NF4 Ultra board, with an A64 3200 Winchester, seems pretty responsive. Would buy one for myself if was looking for one today.

Not quite SCSI----but very fast and very cheap.....

I got a pair of these 80GB Hitachi SATAII drives running in Raid0 connected to a SI3124 PCI-X SATA II controller in my system. The drives are set to SATAII mode.

I got a drive index score of 88MB/s.

Maybe johnrr6 can post his scores on the Nvidia onboard SATA II controller for comparison of the different SATA II controllers.
