| How good is Intel ICH9R for raid 5? I want to do a raid 5 setup on my server and i noticed my board supports raid5 with no problem. How is the ICH9R for raid? Right now i have 2 500gb drives and 2 320gb drivers. So either im going to add another 500gb or buy some 750's. I was thinking of doing raid0 but i have a lot of movies and that and i dont want to take a chance.

| Re: How good is Intel ICH9R for raid 5? I'm fairly sure that running RAID on one of the ICH chips uses the CPU to do much of the work. You could be better off running RAID on a dedicated card with onboard processor, but depending on your budget the cost may not be worth it. Unfortunately I have no real experience running RAID so the difference may end up negligible. Because you're going to put the RAID setup in a server it may not matter at all that some CPU cycles will be used up for RAID, compared to putting the same setup in a gaming rig.

| Re: How good is Intel ICH9R for raid 5? I guess the only real way to find out how it will work is to try it. My server is a Celeron 420 1.6ghz @ 2.7ghz with 2gb of ram.
