Well, I think they are already paying for this. I personally have only had one (1) IBM disk go bad on me. At the moment I have a number of 120GXP and 180 GXP disks in use, that works fine, only one older, that is going to be replaced. So personally I have good experiences.

But still, all the rumors about uncertain IBM disks has made me buy Maxtor and Western Digital disks for all my new systems.

I might buy IBM again. But the way that they are described here of covering up problems sure does not make me more confident in the company. It is easy to destroy a good brand name, it is far more difficult - and expensive - to build it up again...

Well I know that. I have at least two drives branded Hitachi. But they ARE still part IBM. IBM still owns 30 % of the factory...

I've had 20+ IBM 60GXP 40Gs fail on me at work
At home 2 75GXP Failed twice, 1 Total Loss, the other I could backup

I am now using 2 180G IBMs, they are OK so far (1 year now) but they need thermal calibration, which scares the hell out of me.

I would consider Hitachi Drives in the future since recently our IBM HD death rates have dropped.

But I would rather consider Seagate 100G platter drives when they come out

Attention, never use 75GXP or 60GXP as a system drive. Only use it as a backup drive. You never know when it will keel over
