| ICH5R controller My Board is a P4C800-E Deluxe, and my question is where is the connection located for the ICH5R controller and what drivers do I use, and can these drivers be installed after OS has been installed, or is this an F6 issue. Thank You

| The two SATA connectors further into the motherboard are for the ICH5R controller. Depending on how you setup the ICH5R in the bios will determine the need for the ICH5R drivers during the initial installation. Not sure how to do that anymore. |

| a forum member with the name ICE wrote me: Hey, I'll try to walk you through the steps of setting up a RAID 0 array on the Intel ICH5R (since it's faster than the Promise controller) as well as using an IDE drive on the RAID Ultra ATA 133 connector. 1) You must plug the two SATA cables into SATA 1 & 2 on the motherboard in order to use the Intel ICH5R. 2) In the BIOS, under IDE Configuration, configure as follows: Onboard IDE Operate Mode: Enhanced Mode Enhanced Mode Support On: S-ATA Configure SATA as RAID: YES Serial ATA Bootrom: ENABLED 3) After the system POSTS, you'll see a screen which tells you to press CTRL-I in order to enter the ICH5R BIOS. 4) Select #1, to create a RAID volume, and follow the on-screen instructions. Stripe size should be set to anywhere in between 16k and 128k for best performance. 5) Assuming you're using WinXP Pro, go to http://downloadfinder2.intel.com/sc...49&DwnldID=6364 and download the IAA RAID floppy configuration utility. Run the program to create a driver disk which you will need during installation of WinXP. 6) Now plug your IDE drive onto the RAID Ultra ATA 133 controller near the bottom right of the motherboard. 7) Go into the BIOS, and under Advanced, configure as follows: OnBoard Promise Controller: Enabled Operating Mode: RAID 8) Afer the system POSTS, you'll see a screen telling you to press CTRL-L to get inside the Promise BIOS. 9) Create a new array and select the drive you wish to use, making it a RAID 0 volume. 10) Save and exit, and reboot and proceed to install WinXP. 11) Soon after you enter the installation of WinXP, it will tell you to press F6 to install drivers. Press F6 and WinXP will continue to load as usual. In a minute or so, it will ask you to insert your floppy with the drivers that you created before. Follow the on-screen instructions, and finish the rest of the installtion as usual. 12) Everything should be working now. Let me know if this helped. |
