| Lots of drives on sale right now at local electronics stores, pickup a Seagate (5-YR.warranty) for cheap and get yourself an external enclosure as previously suggested. CompUSA has 5% off all Maddog enclosures today! Some have claimed descent chip set in MD-AEN350COM or you could just get one ready to go from like BestBuy for $100.00-$150.00 (depending on size) if you don't want to mess around.

| Hipster, I've noticed a lot of sales on these drive over this last weekend. Was looking @ a WD 160GB dual option (auto/manual backup) w/USB 2.0 & Firewire. However, it doesn't have active cooling. Read some reviews that state their WD 160Gb where getting pretty hot therefore reducing thier life span. Currently looking @ Seagate 160Gb. Thanks for your response!

| I pretty much only use Seagates and interested in an external/inexpensive cost solution. I got the Seagate 300GB,16MB cache internal unit last week from CompUSA for a really low cost and am currently debating enclosures. I figure by doing it this way I will still keep my initial 5 yr.warranty intact because externals only get a year! I have read that Cypress chipset is best for USB and Oxford for Firewire. Also that the Initio works well with Firewire as well (which is currently offered on the Maddog Dual units) Only thing I found was that the Aluminum Maddogs seem to be plastic look a likes!
