Intel 440BX chipset and larger hdd

I put a 160gb hdd into an old system and it seems to not see more than 6gb when it booted so I took it out.

It's an old Compaq Deskpro ... is there a fix for this ?

Yes there is, you have to buy an Ultra IDE controller, and put it in the system. Don't know if Ultra IDE controller cards are still being made or not.

I have a Promise ultra100 ata pci card that I haven't used in years.
I want to configure a NAS using FreeNAS.
It's running great using a 10gb hdd for the moment.

Is it as simple as putting the card in and booting with the 160gb hdd attached ?

I was just reading the docs that can with the card. It says the DOS and windows 3.1 installs don't need drivers.
Maybe I won't in unix either ...
