Lightbulb Performance Reduced

infinst_enu.zip(Chip Utility 2.80) + IntelATA603_enu.exe(ATA Driver603). Installed from Safe Mode Command Prompt in Win2K Pro.

Good=more stable, quick responsiveness
Bad =reduced Read/Write Performance

You should install the Intel ATA-100 drivers if you have an ATA-100 Hard drive.

It will increase your hard drive transfer rates for sure!

Very Easy, First Right-Click on My Computer select properties. This will load System Properties, there are 4 tabs on top click on Device Manager and look for Disk Drives and click on it to expand and there are your HDD.
Double Click whichever drive you want choose settings and there should be the setting to select DMA, just check the box APPLY and then reboot. Repeat after to check and see if the DMA box is still checked.

Lightbulb

Just tried the new Beta 6.10 ATA drivers. Here are the major differences I found when running the full spectrum of tests on Sandra (However, I have not completely analyzed the results before and after installing the beta drivers.)

Before Beta
< System Memory > Installed Memory: 128MB (90% true allocated load)

After Beta
< System Memory > Installed Memory: 128MB (98% true allocated load)

Before Beta
Dhrystone ALU 2429 MIPS
Whetstone FPU 1205 MFLOPS

After Beta
Dhrystone ALU 2433 MIPS
Whetstone FPU 1206 MFLOPS

Before Beta
Integer SSE 4874 it/s
Floating-Point SSE 5967 it/s

After Beta
Integer SSE 4880 it/s
Floating-Point SSE 5974 it/s

Before Beta
C: Drive Index 16335
Buffered Read: 86 MB/s
Sequential Read: 23 MB/s
Random Read: 6 MB/s
Buffered Write: 78 MB/s
Sequential Write: 20 MB/s
Random Write: 8 MB/s
Average Access Time: 7 ms (estimated)

After Beta
C: Drive Index 16358
Buffered Read: 66 MB/s
Sequential Read: 23 MB/s
Random Read: 6 MB/s
Buffered Write: 50 MB/s
Sequential Write: 20 MB/s
Random Write: 8 MB/s
Average Access Time: 8 ms (estimated)

There was minor improvement in my ide cd-rom and scsi burner results, and minor improvement in the memory benchmark.

I was using the microsoft ata driver (i.e. using system properties->device manager->cdrom/ide disk properties to set dma mode).

Did notice my check box was cleared too, but when I read the Intel docs ftp://download.intel.com/support/chi...ata/guide3.pdf I see that their driver didn't load on my primary (shows 'dual FIFO' in Dev Mgr). Will checking this box load it or should I d/l the Intel beta?

WHOA! I just tried this and had a major problem. After checking the DMA box I restarted; Win98 startup screen stayed up for 15 minutes (bar was scrolling at bottom;not frozen) and HD LED on case remained on. Finally shut off main power (reset and case power unresponsive). Had to start from command prompt and load previous registry. Did I miss something? Just put a check mark in DMA box right?

Your system overclocked? How much MHz on PCI? You used 80-wire IDE cable?

No overclocking and mHz is 133:133:133; IDE cable is the 80-pin that came with my CUSL2-C (blue end in mobo!).
All IDE set to auto in BIOS and detected correctly; HD&CD both master (no slaves).
PCI IRQ's set manually for all 3 devices which occupy unshared slots; reserved IRQ 10 for NIC in slot 3.
Think maybe I should uninstall/reinstall ATA driver, or maybe try the beta?
