Sounds like something could be wrong. Try running a 'Thorough' Scandisk on it. Usually (but not always), scandisk will find problems or won't finish if there is a problem.

Noise from Hard Drives is not a good thing. I just returned one of my IBM 75GXP's due to "funny noises". They (IBM) RMA'd me. No questions asked. (the drive passed all the stress tests with no errors) Do a search on the message boards @ http://www.storagereview.com for info. That is "THE" site for Hard drive info. If you are interested in ATA RAID, They just did a great comparson of the 3ware vs Fasttrak. -Bri.

When you were installing the drive, did you notice that it makes any noises when handling it? Maybe you want to take it out and try it... Is it a new purchase or have you had it for a long time? If you hear noises when turning it upside down or sideways, you should probably exchange it for a new one... jafo
