Raid Partition Size?

My new system has 2 150 g Raptors in Raid0. I normally keep the O/S on one partition, installed applications on another, and my paging file on another partition. With a volume size of 300 gigs, what would you suggest as far as partition sizes are concerned?

Thanks Much.

Re: Raid Partition Size?

My suggestions for partition sizes for a system with 300GB storage,
where partitions will be
A) Operating System -- 4 to 10 GB
B) Application Programs -- rest
C) Paging file -- no more than 2GB

But I would have different concerns if laying out a Raid 0 system....

1) Always consider separating the data from programs.
2) What is considered a good stripe size, NTFS cluster size combination.
{That will have great impact on all around performace... }
3) Consider creating a physical layout where the paging file will be
physically close to the operating system files...
or better yet (a page file on a seperate physical drive than O/s)

In a one operating system setup...
a) paging partition 2GB
b) operating system
c) applications
d) data...

{now when you defrag the o/s, its files will be physically close to the
page area, reducing head movement....

In a multiple O/s setup...

1) System partition {NTFS Primary}
Extended partion containing:
2) Logical Boot disk for say XP o/s
3) Logical page disk for paging areas of XP, 2000 etc
4) Logical Boot disk for say Win 2000
5) Logical Boot disk for say Vista
6) Data....

I am not sure under what conditions paging benefits from being placed
on a striped disk....
Pretty much everything stops in your system when you have a hard
page fault... and a Raid 0 system would have to resolve 2 I/O interrupts.

I would tend to leave the pagefile on a non-raid volume if possible.
