Re: Raptor - Worth it?

The Raptors haven't been worth it for a while now with the Caviar 640 and RE2 750 being what they are.

Re: Raptor - Worth it?

The new VelociRaptors are incredible! I replaced two 74 GB Raptors in RAID 0 with the VelociRaptor single drive and my speed increased. Here is the synthetic benchmarks...Max is about 130 mb per second...minimum is 80 and avg is 107. The 640AAKS does about 110 max, 55 minimum...and around 90 avg...

The VelociRaptor does smoke the 640AAKS...however...the storage capacity of the 640AAKS certainly smokes the VelociRaptor. Depends on what you want...I intend to RAID two VelociRaptors at some point...but I have to admit that the performance of the single 300 GB VR, being as fast as it is...makes me wonder...A Very quiet, FAST FAST FAST drive...

Re: Raptor - Worth it?

Does anyone know if the WD 150GB Rapter "X" (with the window panel) is still available? I went to the WD site and looked around and could not find it. I was planning on buying one for my boot drive.

Currently I'm working on a hard drive box mod (Lian-Li PC-71 case) where I cut out the left side of the hard drive box and created a black aluminum frame with an acrylic panel, making a window so that you can see the first hard drive. I am going to mount a LED to illuminate the inside of the window panel. I wanted to mount the Rapter X there so that you can see the platter and the arm. I'm about half done the mod and wouldn't be too pleased to find out that WD doesn't make the Rapter X anymore. If they don't, I was hoping that WD would make a window version of the new 300GB VelociRaptor.
