Well I use a very power tweaker that I have told people on this forum about-they do not seem that interested in it. Seem to prefer the toy that MS provides. Sorry, I side tracked there.

Take the following code and paste it into a text editor like NotePad:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem] "NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate"=dword:00000001
Save the file as LastAccess.reg.

Open the file and the attribute will be changed.

I remember that tweaker... I've got it lying around somewhere.

But thanks for the direct tweak! It's been applied .

I have been trying to gather information about RAID 0 with these 8MB drives...so far it's looking like the RAID BIOS and drivers are not up to speed yet.

The Highpoint sees the drive(s), but can't get the performance out of them and Promise can't even see the drive(s)....

New Promise drivers are reportedly being worked on for this issue and it may be a few weeks b/4 we see them...no word from Highpoint at all. I'm doing what I can to get ahold of them.

I guess I was ready b/4 they were...

I did find one review...xbitlabs review of the RocketRAID133

Nothing about large drives in it...

Would that last access time tweak be beneficial on a regular (not raid) IDE setup? Seems it would be. Any downside?
Thanks.

Thanks for trying Demi...but those weren't the right ones...

If I EVER hear back from Highpoint I'll be surprised...I even volunteered to test beta drivers for them.

I was thinking of doing something like that on my next rig.

Well, I find this odd. Explain to me why with the ATI8500DV with two Maxtors D740x while recording will give me a frame reduced rate of up to 60% whereas my two WD (1 8Meg and 1 2Meg cache) is giving me under 1% frame rate lost? Seems that the HPT372 is doing pretty good for me.

So I am rather confused on this issue. :confuse2:

I am too pointreyes...but most of my testing has just been some quick benchmarks - I was covering a lot of ground looking for a setup that would at least get me close to where I thought I should be with these drives.
I ended up going back to the Highpoint Rocket card again - it clearly is faster then the onboard Promise.

I don't think it's the card itself at fault...a reliable source told me that both the Promise AND Highpoint RAID controllers do not yet have a bios that fully utilizes the 8 MB cache on these WD drives.
They are still being developed and will be a little ways off.

These WD 8MB cache drives do feel snappy fast - they just bench crappy...
Maybe I should try some more extensive work to see how they do - like processing a movie...

Or...if you have any suggestions I'm all ears...

BUMP for an update.

I sent my Tekram card back as I was getting squat for numbers compared to the ATTO bench thread with my two WD 80 gig SE's. Early in this thread Ozzie said it appeared that there was a bios problem that wasn't utilizing the 8 mb buffers. I want to order either a Highpoint RocketRaid 100 or Adaptec 1200A but I want to know which one works the best with the SE's.

HELP!

I read on MemoryMedia's(?) website that the Highpoints are shipping with an updated driver. Is this to help with the 8 mb buffer drives?!
