Question

IBM 75GXP????

I'm looking into buying another HDD. Should I wait for the newer IBM HDD (60GXP) or just buy the 75GXP??

I know some people reported serious ploblems with the IBM 75GXP. What's the truth on that?

I work at a hardware store where we sell tons of the IBM ATA 100 hard disks. I think any one of those is an excellent choice.

The fastest are indeed the 75GXP's.

They can compete against scsi.

I have an IBM 75GXP for about two months, and I haven't had any problem with it.

I recently tested a Ultra160 Quantum Atlas V against my Fireball AS.. the IDE drive beat the SCSI by a fair margin in Sandra scores.

99% of home users will not see any difference between SCSI and IDE drives... except for the lack of cash in their wallet.

I do think that SCSI is way better for CD's and CD-RW though.

Ciao

SubZero, I can strongly recommend the 75GXP. I have two of them running in RAID0 (30 Gig each) now for about 5-6 months, without any problem. And they are fast and VERY quiet.

Another PC here at home is also running on a 75GXP HDD (also 30 Gig). Equally fast and quiet without any problem for about 4-5 months.

Highly recommended!

You mentioned that you have heard that many have had serious problems with the IBM 75GXP disks, have you thought about that it is (I think anyway) the most sold disk in the world right now.. If 10 people are buying an IBM and 2 are buying a Maxtor, of course more are getting problems with the IBM's...

I read about a year ago that harddisks have a wrong margin (do you say that in english?) on about 3%.

Wink

Thanks for the input guys! Obviously the IBM disks is the favoured one. I allready have a Maxtor Diamondmax 40+ ATA66 disk right now but I'll set my sights on the IBM 75GXP!
