Re: Pricing on Windows 7 Stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yep... and the masses continue to put up with it. IMO if you purchased Vista, W7 should be free!

Re: Pricing on Windows 7 Stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not bother with Win7 , as I did with Vista .

Yes it will gain one market share , as Vista will be erased from the market of new systems.

But the large amount of the XP based systems will remain as is .
We did pay for the XP 132 EUR as OEM version, we will keep it for Looooong time.

We learned by the hard way all this years , that OS its not a magical item .

I own three XP Pro Licenses , and two XP home.
And currently own two desktops and a laptop.
And everything works fantastic , thanks God ..

Re: Pricing on Windows 7 Stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no major love and hate issues , when we referring to OS.

Its all about quality and speed of operations , plus a new learning curve ,
at using them , and tweaking their settings .

I am too old to loose time tweaking and learning something , that it does not offer anything new , or worthwhile .

I prefer to spent the money getting something new for other needs of my , than getting an Win7 license .

Ok there are better sites for this Im sure but this is one that made sense to me so for Europe...

Techworld.com - No rip-off for European users says Microsoft

Absolutely agree. If i had $300 to spend, i'd spend it on new hardware upgrades and keep WinXP. OR I'd buy Win7 Home + a new CPU instead of Win7 top-of-the-line

Re: Pricing on Windows 7 Stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got Windows 7 Pro oem for $129 on sale and you get anytime for $139, Home Premium oem for $105 at Newegg any day of the week, I have it running on 3 machines could never go back to XP, plus TRIM is working automatic on my Intel SSD to perfection and you can't do that with XP!

FV,
Did you ever try doing an in-place upgrade (from Vista) with the Win7 OEM disc? If so, did it allow you?
If I choose to do an in-place upgrade instead of a clean install on my main rig, I will have to use Win7 Ultimate because it has Vista Ultimate on it. Trying to determine if I can buy the OEM disc or if I have to buy the upgrade. Searched online, but haven't found a definitive answer...
TIA

No I haven't tried the upgrade, one thing I went to W7 from XP, never had Vista. One thing is I've seen W7 Ultimate has low has $169.

Re: Pricing on Windows 7 Stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The pricing on windows 7 I would say is reasonable there were many early offers.

Re: Pricing on Windows 7 Stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still trying to find a reasonably priced in-place upgrade path for my 2 Vista Ultimate 64 rigs. I have Win 7 Home Premium Upgrade, but unfortunately can't use that to upgrade from Vista Ultimate.

Found this:
WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE RETAIL PRODUCT KEY

Is this legit?
It is only the key. Could I use my Win 7 Home Upgrade disc to do the in-place upgrade and then use this Ultimate key to activate?
If not, where to download a legit (unaltered) Win 7 Ultimate 64 ISO?

If this is legit and works, I could upgrade 2 PCs for $40!

Anyone? TIA.

edit: Here's another one, "Elecsurf_PC":
Windows 7
This one is $99. Seems more realistic.

I couldn't find either one of these merchants on "Reseller Ratings.com"

Re: Pricing on Windows 7 Stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I gave it a try and IT IS LEGIT!

I got the product key and a Microsoft download link. The download worked. I burned an ISO and it appears to be OK. I called Microsoft, gave them the key and they confirmed that it is a valid, unused Win 7 Ultimate Retail key. No problem!
I just ordered a second one and this time got a download link for the 32 bit version, just in case I ever want that.

Get 'em while you can, for $25:
WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE RETAIL PRODUCT KEY

I am going to try the in-place upgrade on both of my Vista Ultimate rigs... one at a time, of course.
Wish me luck!
