| Hey all been awhile since i posted i was away for the last 6 months. Anyways i have Vista Ultimate X64 and at the start had alot of driver issues that have been resolved and my system is running smoothly. My mom just bought a laptop with Windows 7 home Premium Pre-Installed and ive been playing around with it and i gotta say its nice . My Question is , is it really worth upgrading my vista ultimate to 7 ultimate because i havent noticed any real difference between the 2. Just looking for some opinions from you guys on it as far as any performance gain, driver issues you guys have experienced ease of install etc. ive only been able to test out the home premium but not sure what the the ultimate has to offer over that version and the professional version. |

| Re: Win 7 upgrade is it worth it? Opinion: Win 7 is nice and runs better than Vista on lower end systems. However, if you have Vista 64 SP2 running smoothly on a powerful system that does not have a SSD and you are happy with it, then I do not think there is strong argument for upgrade.

| Re: Win 7 upgrade is it worth it? well i bit the bullet and opted for the upgrade and i gotta say 7 is fantastic only had 1 driver issue because its still in beta and i dont have access to it yet but other then that its a beast so far. I opted for Windows 7 Enterprise X64 which is identical to the ultimate and it only cost me $25 vs $320 so far so good. I kept my vista install as a backup on another drive. |

I knew that if you were posting on this forum, and you had your moms laptop to look at, you wouldn't hold out too long. It really amazed me. I didn't think they would get so many basic things finally right. Enjoy |

| Re: Win 7 upgrade is it worth it? I would say it depends on how much you have to spend on Hdw. I just built a system Gigabyte GA=ep45-ud3p 4gb Corsair xms 6400 memory WDC 500gb Green Caviar sata 2 HD Using the system for the usual stuff docs Browsing the net it's fine. When I play some of the card games ( the limit of what games I play) the games don't have the same snap and feel in contrast to the same games under XP on the same system. It's a dual boot and the xp system is on an 80 GB IDE HD. I don't have an issue so far with functionality but I do have problem with a printer that I don't have a working driver. A Konica Minolta 2300DL I've tried all the recommended drivers from the MFG website although they state they would have a driverby 3/2010. In the mean time they recommend using a GDI drivers ( which of course doesn't work).

| Re: Win 7 upgrade is it worth it? I haven't had any driver issues. My Audio card was the only hiccup because the driver is a beta but works quite well for not being a final release. Had to wait to get access to the beta driver. |

| Re: Win 7 upgrade is it worth it? Educators who are from districts or colleges that have licensing agreements with MS can usually get Enterprise VERY inexpesively. My sons got upgrades from their university for $30... One of their friends from a different university said they were offering it in the school's bookstore for $10 I got my Win 7 Ultimate upgrade for $99 through an educator discount agreement between my school system and an educational software wharehouse. If I could have "downgraded" from Ultimate to Enterprise or Business I would have.....But MS doesn't allow that path..... Ultimate is really a waste..... Business or Enterprise has EVERYTHING-----minus stuff NO ONE ever uses.....

| Re: Win 7 upgrade is it worth it? I've got the same problem, yes Enterprise or Business would be fine. But I got a decent deal on Vista Ultimate when I bought it, but it was still over $200. Like you I can't downgrade because of MSes policies. I was taking a class recently, but couldn't find a special deal on Win7 ultimate, just Home Premium and Professional. Wish I had bought Vista business now, but it was actually more expensive than Ultimate when I made my purchase ![]() I'm hoping overtime the Ultimate upgrade will come down in price.

| Re: Win 7 upgrade is it worth it? johnrr6 is correct. i work for one such school district. The enterprise is for Volume Licenses, 7 Pro,Ultimate & Enterprise Are Almost identical in features from what i have seen. I do agree that ultimate is kind of a waste. |
