Windows 7 Features Revealed

Getting behind the wheel of Windows 7 reveals many changes, some minor, others larger

Microsoft has been very secretive about Windows 7. While it has let leak scant details about how touch functionality will play a critical role in the new OS, more information on how the new OS ticks, and its general feel have been scarce. The Windows team has been using a blog to let out information on the new product, but the stream has been more like a slow trickle, with few concrete explanations of features.

Why Windows 7 Will Suck Less Than Vista

I like this analogy...

"It's my feeling that Windows 7 will be to Vista what Windows 98 was to Windows 95, or Windows XP was to Windows 2000. Those operating systems didn't seem to add more features, but rather made the OS more usable in real ways while improving on stability and the user experience"

Re: Windows 7 Features Revealed

I like Vista (SP1!) - so Window7 is looking really, really good. If the economy has recovered by it's release, I can see a lot of companies finally moving to Windows7 en mass.

Re: Windows 7 Features Revealed

Good articles!

Bring it!!!----I'm ready!

Vista is a fine OS but I'll step up to the next one regardless.

And if the have it in Jan of 2010----well----I'll have had Vista for over 3 years anyway....

I think you are exactly correct----the timing will be perfect!

And it will be PAST time for companies to move up.....

companies will not shift over to a new OS en masse whenever a new OS is released no matter how good it is...always takes at least 1 service pack...too much risk involved, this is not a home user

I kind of disagree on this one Poly----I think they will.....

As long as MS can show it will run well on their existing hardware (Key)....I think they will jump because:

Pent up demand.....

Solves the "Vista" perception....

And a lot of hardware will be upgraded by then through normal attrition.

My own school system is considering holding off on it's planned Vista upgrade starting this spring------why???? Not because it doesn't like Vista.....

Money from taxes and a down turned economy looks a lot less for next year......

Hopefully----that will all be turned around in 18 months or so......and timing of the turnaround would coincide with a Windows 7 release.

It will be fun to watch this all develop!!!

Only if Windows7 sucks out of the block. I worked at a large company (6K+ employees) that rolled WinXP soon after release. WinXP pre-SP1 had some very significant flaws, still it worked out well for us (back then). The situation was very different with Win2k and NT4.0, where I didn't either till SP2 and SP3 respectively.

As far as I go, I tend to wait for the first service pack, unless I need to get into it for career reasons.

Thanks for the link XJ I like the new features, can hardly wait to try them out when the OS gets released (hopefully without the constant Vista delays)

Well, you may get your wish. They guy in charge of delivering Win7 formerly was in charge of delivering MS Office - he's a no-nonsense get it done manager with a good track record. I need to rethink my position on Win7 being a year late - MS may actually hit their mark this time!

Re: Windows 7 Features Revealed

Yeah but he gave us the "Ribbon Bar" too in Office 2007.....LOL

Not my favorite feature.....

And with no way to go back to menus which I was totally familier with....

Unless you use something like this:

High Performance Add-ins and Tools for Microsoft Office 2007

I like the "Ribbon Bar" and there is a way to revert to the classic menus, unfortunately I can't remember how atm.
