I pre-ordered it wondering the same thing. I had assumed that I would have a choice when download time comes. Now you have me wondering.

That's what I figured. Thanks for the confirmation.
Looks like the only thing missing from Premium, that I might want, is "XP Mode", but I don't think that's worth the extra $$$. I'm going to order Premium. $50 is a pretty good deal for an MS OS.

Editorial: I bet they would sell a lot more and mitigate piracy if their normal pricing structure was like this limited time pre-order deal.

here's a nice chart detailing all the differences between the different versions...I'm going to go for Home Premium myself...I went with the Business version of Vista because I needed the fax capability but with Windows 7 they included that in the Home Premium Edition

Thumbs down Re: Is the Windows 7 Upgrade deal, 32-bit or 64-bit???

Just noticed another limitation of Premium: 16GB RAM maximum. Not an issue now, but that's an unnecessary, arbitrary limitation.

Re: Is the Windows 7 Upgrade deal, 32-bit or 64-bit???

Purchased 3 Copies of 7 Professional Upgrade on Amazon.....

Needed Remote Desktop Host, Backup to network, and join a domain for my work....

Have no idea what Offline Files does/means

Otherwise......Home Premium looks like the way to go and far cheaper....

for those of you thinking about clean installs------it really isn't necessary as the installer installs a complete new OS instead of patching/upgrading the exisiting Vista OS.

It then gives you an option to delete all the old junk once Win 7 is up and running nicely-----klinda like the option that existed in Vista SP2.

And this way----you don't get rid of all your data......and have to reload a bunch of stuff.....

I saw some performance tests somewhere between an upgraded Win 7 box and then a Clean Install on the same box----benchmarks were identical.......

I am assuming offline files is the same as Xp.

You can make network files or even entire folders "offline". It creates a local copy of the files defined as "offline. You can then work with those files even when you are not connected to the network like the share is still there.

When you reconnect, there is a sync mechanism to update the files on the server.

Thanks for that info John. I am planning on building a new PC now and putting Vista 64 SP2 on it, but will probably move to W7 later. If upgrade really does work well, I may do that, to save the hassle of re-installing and configuring everything.

Thanks Rick----wondered what that was....

Looks like something I could possibly use when I'm not connected to my School's network....
