Well, some of the information was already revealed. Libby was married and her husband was killed. He owned the boat and she wanted to get rid of it. Chance meeting with Desmond where she learning he had entered the boat race and needed a boat. She give the boat to Desmond for free. Maybe her husband had a boating accident and that's why she wanted to get rid of it. Her stint in the mental hospital could be that she suffered a breakdown when her husband died. I would be somewhat surprised if they changed this.

I think you're wrong on that point...I don't think it was by chance at all...I think she is somehow involved either with Dharma, Penny or the people on the freighter ship

also I think her time in the mental hospital was also a setup...she was working for someone trying to get information

I think what we know of Libby's backstory so far is just a small part of a bigger story...and what we think we know is really not the truth...I don't even think she was really on the plane that crashed on the island
