Which cell phone is best for 3D gaming?

I thinking about getting another cell phone, which would be best for 3D games? I get really bored at work sometimes and have some toilet time to kill. I want as close to PC quality as possible.

Re: Which cell phone is best for 3D gaming?

I did some research on this subject after I got my Sony Ericsson w580i. There are some dedicated cellphone 3D-capability benchmarking sites that keep updated lists (see links below). Basically, the ones with the most processing power are at the top of the list such as the Apple iPhone and the higher end Nokias.

It can also depend on what platform the games are written for. In the same way some computer video cards perform better running OpenGL games, and some are better at running Direct3D, such it is with cell phones and their respective 3D rendering platforms.

Re: Which cell phone is best for 3D gaming?

No problem! I'm relatively new to the cell phone ownership crowd, but I'm interested in the new hardware and software platforms that are being developed within the industry. It's also been very interesting to find so many similarities in the culture that has developed with the culture developed around computers (my primary interest, historically).

I have found that the cell phone gaming/hacking/tinkering industry and culture is very similar to the computer culture of the late 90's. The internet speeds are getting faster, and people are scrambling for content and downloading everything they can find, while the companies try to keep control of it. It's very amusing to watch.

Yes, the Apple iPhone is quite powerful. I have no idea which model is best for gaming. You might want to check out some of the mobile specific gaming sites. Such as:
