| Cordless phone recommendations anyone have any recommendations for a new cordless phone?...I currently have a Uniden 5.8 GHZ cordless phone with Digital Spread Spectrum....I've had the phone for over 2 years and the battery seems to have lost a lot of its charge and talk time is substantially decreased...would buying a new battery be better then buying a new phone all together?...I love Uniden phones but I don't know if they are still the best...I used to have a Panasonic cordless but the battery life was terrible...anyone know the best cordless phones available now and have any recommendations?

| If it has been two years you definitely need a new battery... they will not last forever. |

| This is not a recomendation for a new phone but just some insight to your battery problem. As stated before, 2 years is quite a while for a battery. I'd just get another one. But the real reason I'm posting is b/c I deal with batteries every day. I sell cell phones and I see batteries come and go. My best word of advice? Charge your new battery properly the first couple of times and then leave it off the hook until you absolutely need to charge it. I know this may be a bit of an inconvenience at times, but your battery will last longer if you just charge it, then use it and leave it off the hook, then charge it again just before it dies. Charging a phone constantly "burns" the battery. (Overcharging is bad - I don't care what safety features the phone says it has). My cell phone is over 4 years old and I've never had to change the battery once and it stays up for days, even with heavy use. Good luck.

my Uniden manual actually says the opposite... "Recharge your phone on a regular basis by returning the handset to the base after each phone call. When the operating time becomes short, even after the battery is recharged, please replace the battery."

| I am real happy with my Vtech I5881. I also have the Vtech IP5825, and it sucks. Mostly battery life. The 5825 will be sitting the charger and the battery will go dead. This happens on both handsets, and I have already replaced the batteries. The good news is that the 5825 uses standard AAA batteries. I just don't understand why both handsets will go dead in a few days if I leave them on the charger. If I pick them up from the base and set them back down every day or so, they don't go dead. Very weird, and very annoying.

| Looks like a new battery is your best choice, but I'll throw my cordless phone advice in to the mix. I went through a few cheapos like a Southern Bell (back when they were still alive) and other cheapos with NO LUCK until I finally spent the money for a good one. I got an AT&T (got it in the early 900MHz days). It was a beaut.....lasted nearly 10 years. Then when it finally went, I got a 2.4 GHz (which was now the current) Panasonic because I'd heard so many good things. I honestly felt like I got better quality and range on my old 900 MHz AT&T. Was not happy with the Panasonic, but used it for a year or two before it died. Then decided to get another since I wasn't happy with the Panasonic...forget which one now...Sony maybe. Wasn't that happy with it either, but then I decided to go "cell phone only" and it was now a moot point. So anyway...there's my story. AT&T is the only phone I was happy with. |

| I actually have a Uniden (older) and purchased a 5.8Ghz for my mom this year. I think they are fabulous phones, just as good as the 5.8Ghz Panasonics on the market. I also thought it was interesting that KT really liked his AT&T. I know that for the last 5 years or so (maybe longer) they have actually not made any phones, but instead outsourced them. I know one 2.4GHz phone I used was actually a rebadged V-Tech (garbage). Either way, stick with the Uniden, they are good quality phones IMHO. |

| Geez, about that battery life, I have a 900Mhz phone that the battery has lasted me 12 years!! still the origional battery, but now it only lasts 15 mins or so. I'm not sure if I want to replace that battery (being as the phone is so old/good) or buy a new one. The Panasonic I have is a GOOD phone. I have purchased (and returned) 3-4 phones that where just garbage. You'd think at 200cnd bucks you could get a phone that you don't hear yourself talk in it... or get an echo so I would like to bump the origional question... a good cordless phone with answering machine and caller id Cheers!!

| MY favorite cordless of all time was my ole 900 mhz Toshiba. That thing was built like a tank. When I got my first 2.4 phone, I was dissapointed because my 900 was far better.
