thats easy---DTS!!!!!

although DD 5.1 is very good and the more common format---most movies have DD 5.1 capability--DTS is far less common but the movies that do support it sound amazing---there is a difference---go to your local Circuit City or Best Buy and go listen to the free movie display samples they have set up in the stores and you will "hear" for yourself

I believe DTS has two discrete rear channels while DD has 1 rear channel that stereo pans.

I agree strongly with the other posters - DTS is significantly better sound quality than DD5.1. DTS stores much more information on the disc which is why you don't get so many extras on a DTS disc. It's a sacrifice worth making though if you appreciate high quality sound. Of course in fairness it depends how the record it - the Back to the Future discs had pretty poor DTS quality in my opinion.

Cheers

I think compression is different between DTS and DD 5.1 and giving DTS the upper hand by far especially in situations where there is a lot of data to process DTS is superior.

Wasn't DTS "invented" by Lucas studios or George Lucas? I guess that says it all!

Now I need to get a DTS receiver myself... Only on DD 5.1!... JK... Pretty amazing still..

Dr.GreenThumb, it might be only on the UK discs that I have. It's like the Band of Brother discs - DTS sound in the US, DD5.1 in the UK. Sometimes they mix it up. I got DTS sound on my Monsters Inc disc and it isn't even mentioned on the box.

If you want to hear and see the most amazing quality ever. Grab yourself a Super-Bit disc. I got myself The Patriot SuperBit and WOW! The video is cleaner than any DVD I have ever seen. Not to mention it pushes DTS.
