Sorry, just saw this.....to answer: Of course I would!, my comment was that "rarely has it been done so aggressively"....hard to argue with that IMO.. Microsoft has never been known for it's lack of zeal in pursuing any "infringement" or for it's gentle handling of anyone perceived as a threat of any kind... (the way business is done with the big dogs, I reckon...)

Again thank you all,

This is all in response to an ethics question as posed by my professor. His opinion was that MS was on the downward spiral because of increasing disdain from the "enthusiast" computer culture. I disagreed, I thought that MS was not hated but merely looked down upon because they were #1 (much like other nations dislike America, but are still our friends). I plan to use this thread as part of my arguements, after all, arn't all of you computer experts?

Lastly, for those with praise for MS and their capitalistic motives. Remember they were convicted of violating various anti-trust laws, both here in the US and in the EU. I'm all for doing what's in their best interests as long as it does not violate the laws that we all have to abide by. They broke those laws and for that they should be punished, and thier reputation is rightfully tarnished.

I had really strong feelings about M$ a few years ago. I hated their guts so badly.

But a large reason for that feeling the fact I was the fact I used to run the rock solid Windows 98 SE

After I switched to Windows XP in my new rig, I've eased on the M$ hatred front. However, I still don't like them.

A good example would be how they bought out Bungie game studios to make Halo: Combat Evolved an exclusive Xbox game. It was for that reason that Halo was later ported to PC... And god... The port sucks so badly

I feel M$ are responsible for that because they bought the company that made Halo just so they could make Halo an Xbox game.

Overall I don't think M$ will ever change, and I'll never "support" them. I use their .Net stuff for my programming, but that's pretty much the only M$ thing I'd spend money on in the future.

I forgive you Goldenfarmb, I was just a bit testy this morning. Just state your intention up front next time - so people can decide if they want to be part of an experiment or not.

Cheers,
XJ

I have no objection to you using anything I have said. In general you might want to provide a synopsys of the various opinions posted here with out giving specific names. You might even want to let others know about this great forum anyway as it is a wealth of information on many related topics and while we do not all agree on everything I have not seen anyone post misleading or known false information. I would never have been able to build my rig as quickly and easily as I did were it not for all the helpful posters here.

Good luck with your project.
