I read this on the Hexus website today. Not sure if it applies to you.

"Google's Gmail blacklisted by Spamcop?
Posted on Monday, 11 April, 2005 by Ryszard

I tried to send an email to my boss this morning, from my Gmail account. Gmail is Google's free, but still in beta, webmail service. The service ties in Google's advertising system with email, to give you targetted adverts based on the email you're currently reading. Recently having upgraded the storage for all Gmail users to 2GiB, it sits pretty as at least the most popular online webmail system at the time of writing.

But my email to my boss didn't get through, SpamCop.net, the service we use for spam mail filtering at HEXUS, blocking the email. SpamCop.net list the mail system Gmail used to send my mail, zproxy.gmail.com, as one in its blacklist of hosts and IPs that it doesn't allow email from.

While minor blacklisting at SpamCop.net appears to be resolvable in short order, and automatically sorts itself out if no spam appears to originate from a host in an 8 hour period, it does make you wonder what kind of users are using the Gmail service, if indeed the spam that SpamCop.net saw was legitimate.

Somewhat naively, I'd assumed that all other users with Gmail accounts were clued-up geeks like me, that wouldn't want to use the service for anything other than convenient email. Looks like I could be wrong.

Here's hoping Google are on top of any issue the need to be on top of, and I can get email out of Gmail in a timely fashion. Even the big guys aren't immune to a little blacklisting of otherwise excellent services!"
