'Evening Gents!

Hey Brandon, what do you think of Blaupunkt's lower end car speakers?

stock speakers are probably better

bad news no free multi time for me, my friends schedule changed because another company broke down, so they are covering some of their routes and now and he will not be flying on saturday like i was planning on with scheduling conflicts it looks like i may not get to fly at all with him (would not get to log any of those flights, even if i wanted to because they will all be part 135)

Really? I thought they had a pretty good reputation. Anyway, I've got one blown in the rear and one going in the front so anything new would be better than them no matter what. I don't want to spend over 50.00 bucks on a set. Got any suggestions?

what sizes are you looking at?

about the flying, at least i will get to go sometime before CFI starts with the gF, but thats not free multi time, at least it counts towards my TT.

Goofy 6 3/4 for a direct fit both front and rear.

Locally I can't touch Crutchfield's prices especially when you factor in adaptor plates and the harness adaptors. Everybody wants to add on for stuff like that.

The "best" local shop is under new management and they are real PITA's if you aren't out to dump a ton of cash. The guy I was chatting with almost laughed in my face when I told him I just wanted a pair or two of speakers and maybe a new CD head unit. They used to be pretty cool. I bought my Alpine amp from them and the guy talked me into a cheaper one than I was going to get. They even threw in an in-line fuse holder and like 25 FEET of 12 ga. wire.

so you are stuck with either adaptors or 6.75" speakers, that is a wierd size

how about these Alpine speakers?http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/1292
they are 6.5's. you will need an adapter plate then, but they should be very good speakers for the money. You don't need a wiring adapter, just use butt connectors and hook up to the factory harness, or your current wiring

i have purchased from ikesound before and had no problems,
here is the same speakers at crutchfield, http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Lh9SdZE...0&I=500SPS170A

they just may fit without an adapter, they are listed as a 6.5/6.75" speaker

Yep, it is an odd size but it's an odd little car. It's a '94 Saturn SC1 and it uses very little that fits anything else.

Yea, I could/can use butt's (gotta watch how you say that ) but it is nice to just plug stuff in. I'm getting lazy in my old age!

BTW, those look pretty nice.

they make their money off the shipping, unfortunately, but you are still getting 125.00 speaker for 1/2 price. thats just my suggestion anyway.

the specs on those ones are really good, excellent S/N ratio. i would try to find something close to those specs if i was you.

That's true too but I'd still have to get the adaptors and that would be another 15 to 20 bucks. Comes out to about 90 bucks. That's just way more than I wanted to spend on them so I'll see what else I can find. BTW, in case you didn't know, I'm not a real audiophile, I'm just getting tired of the blown speaker buzzing (been about a year now) and a CD player might be kind of nice for traveling to the race track.

true.

are you sure you need an adapter for those speakers though? I guess no matter what you get it will be an improvement over your stock speakers, especially when they are buzzing And a cd player upgrade can't hurt either if the money is in the pocket for it.

No, I'm not 100% sure I'd need adapts but the only speakers I've seen listed at Crutchfield that don't require adapts are true 6 3/4's. All the 6 1/2 - 6 3/4 like those say they are required and included. That just makes me pretty sure I'd need them. Other thing is one day I was at BestBuy (I know, they suck but I figured I'd ask) and they said they don't have anything that would fit without adapts.

Having the money isn't the issue right now. It's just that putting alot of cash into a '94 isn't my idea of a good idea, know what I mean?

After a little digging at Crutchfield it seems the Alpine's will work in the back deck without an adaptor and can be made to work in the doors (front location) with some cutting. They also handle 40 watts RMS which is what my little Alpine amp puts out (actually the test sheet says 41 right and 42 left). They might be just the ticket for the rear after all.

Now moving on to a new head unit.........brand suggestions around 125 to 150 for CD/RW playback?
