no, i haven't posted the reason.

i am having a gum graft done in the AM. taking gum from the roof of my mouth and transplanting it above my front uppers

i was supposed to have it done about 12 years ago, but i was only 9 years old and they had a lot of scary looking tools.

You will not find a more sympathetic soul than I FB, where "dental repair" is concerned, as I have a strong dental phobia....and when I was in University dentistry was a lot more primitive...BELIEVE ME! Take heart in the fact that Dentists today are equipped with far superior tools and anesthetics than they were even when you were nine. I agree that the "tools of the trade" do look rather nasty btw....bleh! Look at it this way ...teeth and gums are a non-renewable resource...you would miss them far more if they were gone. Good luck tomorrow, unless your guy or gal is a real bozo, you should get by fine!

Play the sympathy angle for all it's worth afterwards...you may as well get something out of it

my only problem with it is i need to be awake while they do it, i am hoping they can at least gas me so i can't concentrate on what they are doing

when this heals, i have another appointment scheduled for the end of may to have a bridge put in to replace a tooth i knocked out when i was 16, so i am going to loose another tooth in that process because as i understand it, they have to grind down a perfectly good tooth

i don't mind normal cleaning, or even cavaties. i got to the dentist 4 times a year for cleanings, but stuff that requires cutting while i am awake freaks me out

A little gas might help...perhaps just to distract you a little, as you say...can't hurt to request it FB. Sounds like you have one of the same issues as I...a fertile imagination...the mind will make pictures that are often far worse than the reality, eh? Sometimes the advantages of having a quick mind are dubious indeed. As a side note, but kind of related.... I just spent a half-hour in an MRI machine today...interesting the way that time stands still when you have no means of guaging it. I always prefer a dentist that has a clock where I can see it...It gives me something concrete to latch on to in the sense of knowing when they will finish...somehow that helps...

With 4 cleanings a year, you should not get many cavities FB..good habit

MRI's been there before, woke up in one after being unconscious...i think it was an MRI anyway, Cat scan???
