Re: Gophers - How do you get rid of these vile, evil monsters?

I think theres a game that associates you with killing gophers or moles, one of the two, you could practice with that.

I'm sure they would do great in it! The whole idea behind the Leverevolution is to keep a pointy almost full metal round, but has a small soft rubber tip so you don't set off the rounds in the magazine tube during firing. I imagine that could be quite unpleasant lol. You can still fire .30.30 full metals (or teflon tips) so long as there is only one round in the tube or single shot. I have some regular blunt point Remington "green box" and they don't do bad at short range just that missle like tip on the Hornadys fire straighter longer. Not even that expensive really. I get a box of 20 for $20 at Dick's sporting goods.

Poor gophers, they are just trying to make their house better.

Re: Gophers - How do you get rid of these vile, evil monsters?

Do you know someone who might lend you a dachshund?

When I was a kid, the yard became a Mole playground. Dad tried water, gas, traps, etc. He was at his wits end and asked for advice from the guy he was buying all the traps and stuff from. The man said, "Do you know someone with a dachshund?" Funny thing was, we owned one. We'd shortened his leash because he was digging in the yard. No one put two and two together and realized that the mole problem started when we shortened that leash. Anyway, when we let the leash back out, no more moles.

Dachshunds were bred to go after underground prey. I'm pretty sure they'll work just as well on gophers. They won't do much against golfers ("goffers" in Scots-Gaelic, I think).

Lightbulb Re: Gophers - How do you get rid of these vile, evil monsters?

You could also fill the hole with propane, and light it . Propane sinks, and you can put it down a gopher hole, and light it. I did that once, and a 6' long blue flame came both ends of the tunnel, didn't relize there was another exit until I saw the flame. It lit the brush on fire, and I had to stomp it out. It made a deep WHOOOOFFF sound, and was out a second later. The gopher never came out of the hole, and I never saw that one again. I actually felt sorry for it, and I didn't want to risk a fire again. I was trying to mix it so it would make a kaboom, but I put just a little too much propane in there. Too much propane, and it makes a flame, too little and it won't light, just right, and KABOOM!! BEWARE, you want to have a remote ignition method if you do this. I used a rocket igntitor in a paper pouch full of gun powder, and 50' of speaker wire with a 9v battery.

Hummm seems there would be a little you could do with a bit of Potassium Perchlorate and a dash of German Dark Aluminum Powder Again I have no interest in killing them in their holes or torturing them. They have to come out sometime. When they do, I shoot them with a round better suited for deer, so I trust they suffer little. I must admit to enjoying killing the little bastards. I suppose if there was one terrorizing me I couldn't get for some reason (highly unlikely) then I might resort to more Bill Murry type methods

Oh and Terry Reynolds, I have actually heard that dachshunds will terrorize and get rid of gophers. Sometimes killing them. You would think the gopher with the larger size and beaver teeth not to mention bear like claws would be a sure winner. Guess not.

Re: Gophers - How do you get rid of these vile, evil monsters?

Well just when I think I am the king of gopher slaying, I have one now that is giving me headaches. When ever I see him (which might be once every few days) He is in a big hurry. No time to lock and load. Once I got him with a .22, but that is like shooting an elephant with a slingshot. The sucker is HUGE which would indicate a little intelligence to me to grow that old. I have reverted to Bill Murray tactics and thrown a couple of M-1000's down his hole. No one is brave enough to help me though and throw a rock over the hole to keep the percussion in. I'm pretty sure he's still alive since plants are being eaten. I'll get his *** though. Just need a little patience and a ready .30.30

You are wearing coveralls, with no shirt, a straw hat, a piece of grass hanging from the mouth, a red hankerchief in your hip pocket and boots with oversized toe caps on right?

Oh, and have a rocking chair on the front porch.
