TI-83 has served me very well for 8 years now. it doesnt have all the features some of the more expensive models have, like the TI-85 and TI-86. the 85 and 86 are both extremely nice and will do just about anything you want them too, but there are some tests that don't allow their usage, but the TI83 was allowed on almost all tests that i can remember.

yes, it got me through college calc 1 just fine especially since the 85 or 86 were not allowed on the tests because they have an equation solver built in.

I had the Ti-82 for a few years, but I upgraded to a Ti-86 because of its features. Then I gave that one to my sister and got the Ti-89. I have been very happy with that, but it might be overkill for her.

Ti's are pretty much the standard, so basically I would get any one in the Ti-9x series.

you meant 8x series right, the 9x series were the monsters that were allowed for anything school related

The HP graphing calculators are the cream of the crop, but really overkill for her. The TI series, like FB said are definitely your best bet. They are great calculators.

Ti-83+. Got me through 2 years of math and my wife's BA in accounting.

Paid 99$ for it, (work reimbersed) 5 years ago.

Ditto...

When you said "all levels of math" vtjvt, these ones immediately leapt to mind.

Massive overkill though.

But boy, those things were advanced for their time and were incredibly well-built. My HP48SX from 1st year university in 1992 is still going strong!

...but it cost $350 CDN and the manual is ~1200 pages long!

I agree. Same here from the same year. The thing with HP too is getting used to reverse polish notation. Not a big deal, but confusing at first. You have to LOVE the stack feature though.

TI-89 titanium... it does some extra stuff that the TI-83 will not do, which will be really happy if your daughter ends up taking calculus or beyond. TI-89 has gotten me through physical chemistry, vector calculus, differential equations, and more

Plus, it has USB connectivity so you can download programs and updates.

I ended up having to purchase a TI-89 (even though I had purchased a TI-83 two years earlier) for AP calculus in high school.

IMHO, much better to dish out the extra $40 bucks (no tax with amazon) as opposed to $95 bucks now plus $140 later.

I haven't been able to use a non-RPN calculator since.

Or at least I haven't been able to use it properly - I keep putting things into the memory register!
