I've heard a few horror stories from seperate acquaintances of nearly complete delamination in less than 2 years.
Only paint problem I have is that someone keyed the whole side of my car in a parking lot by my school so it's not all orginal paint. My car is pretty old anyway (still in grad school so I can't afford a new one ). The grand prix my friend has is 1 year old (he got a job instead of continuing school) and has no problems so far. I believe my sister's and my other friend's grand ams are a 2001 and a 2002 and the paint is good so far on those.

The VW r32 is a very nice car, but i dont think they have it in canada, and its kinda pricey here so it would be even worse for you

Kinda strange to hear that the rsx has poor braking. Several import tuner magazines ive read havent mentioned this.
The type-s isnt too shabby, with some minor mods it can put down 220hp at the fly wheel, still nothing like the Wrx. The se-r imho is junk. A friend had one, while it was peppy it lacked some things like rear independent suspension, and high rev limit (kinda important on a 4 banger sports car.)

The new v6 accords are very nice, kinda pricey.

indeed, you need to be going at quite some speed to get the downforce working for you.

It was the Subaru WRX with the poor braking, not the Acura RSX.

The RSX seems fine except its specs don't even meet the Sentra SE-R's specs.

The WRX, though, gets it power from a turbo. You really need to rev it to create a high exhaust pressure to get any power from it, and even then it takes a few seconds for the power to reach its peak. Plus turbos can be a maintenance nightmare, although I haven't heard anything bad regarding the WRX's turbo, save for the very noticeable lag.

The WRX turbocharges the 1.8 L engine used on the Impreza. The WRX STi turbocharges the 2.4 L engine used on the Forrester. Or at least that's my knowledge.

Interesting to hear about the SE-R. It's certainly affordable, perhaps suspiciously so.

Dude, my Dad drives an Accord. Therefore I'm a little jaded on it. But bring back the Prelude (not likely) and I'm all over it!

The Nissan Maxima seems good, but it's also very pricey. If you're up that high, might as well go for the 350ZX. It's the impracticality of the 350ZX that bothers me though. No trunk space and little passenger space.

ok, the wrx sti is $49 000 here in canada

you can get the rsx type-s which is equal to a 5th gen honda prelude manual(200hp) i would also conside getting a Acura TSX(euro accord)..that is a very nice car....its also has 200hp, and 16x torque....(x is a number that i dont know, but i think its 3)..i really liek the tsx, its modern looking, and has enfough hp to keep you happy in the corrners, aswell as to get you around fast.

Hmm...the STi's not THAT bad then.

Torque is the real indicator of power. Lots of low-end torque requires a large engine. Poor examples of this are the base Celica (wussy torque on the base engine, not much better on the upgraded engine and max torque at 6800 RPM on this one) and the Mazda RX-8 (peak HP at 7200 RPM for the auto and 8500 for the manual, although peak torque is at a more reasonable 5000 and 5500 RPM respectively).

Turbo lag with 'civilian' (i.e. turbos put on cars and sold as stock, such as the Jetta 1.8T and WRX) have such little turbo lag it's almost imperceptable. Turbo pressure starts at 2300-2600 RPM as well, not exactly screaming.

Trust me, they're a blast to drive (I'm a former AWD turbo car owner. :] )

Edit: The engines in the Imprezas are the EJ20 (2.0L) and the EJ25 (2.5L) in the STi.

p.s. Preludes had way too much torque steer and put out poor times - it was a secretary's sports car, like the Pontiac Grand Am or current Mitsubishi Eclipse. ;]

Fraoch, you should look at a Pontiac (I know it's GM). I have a grand prix, my sister is on her second grand am, one of my friends is on her second grand am, and another one just bought a new grand prix gtp. We all love them and haven't had any major problems and very few minor ones.
I wish I could say the same about the 96 Grand Am I had

Now it won't help you find a "style" of car you like, but if you want any tips for getting the right price for a car and not being taken by stupid scams (some sound pretty legit), then here is a website that will make your car buying experience MUCH better!
www.carbuyingtips.com

With the help of this website....4 years ago, I got my $27,000 car for $150 over what dealer paid for it (NOT what THEY call "invoice").

Thanks for the info FightingChance! I'm trying to remember where I got this info from - seems to be in error anyway.

Also makes me feel a little better about the dearly-departed Prelude.

About the only experience I have with a turbo car was a friend's Chrysler Daytona Shelby in high school. It looked nice, and there was a turbo gauge on the dash, but under the hood was an upgraded K-car engine. I was driving my Dad's old Dodge Aries so I was not suitably impressed. The Shelby seemed to go pretty fast though, and it looked good. I was in it when he had the T-roof down once or twice, that was pretty fun, but I never drove it.

I just heard that Daimler-Chrysler severed it's partnership with Mitsubishi.... I guess this means no more crappy little 4 cylinder hand grenades in Chryco's..
