| Help identifying electronic surface-mount component Well in this post you can see that my crappy digital camera died. I identified the component that failed and it may be worth a try to replace as these surface-mount components usually cost pennies. I'm trying to identify what it is though. The PCB has a fair amount of them on it. It's a beige "box" approximately 1/4" long by 1/8" wide and 1/8" thick. It's much larger than the other SMT resistors and capacitors on the board. It looks like the drawing, beige with a brown stripe on the side and writing in white stencil on it. The writing is accurate. I'm thinking this is a capacitor for some reason, but does anyone know? |

| I don't know for sure...somebody may be able to help...but if not, you might be able to take it to a Radio Shack and if you can find a decent sales rep, they might be able to identify it. |

| Oh bummer....if it wasn't on "your camera", you could use the camera to take a picture and post. |

Yes actually I thought about that! I might be able to use my scanner. But the part is very simple and it will look identical to the drawing.

It's a bypass capacitor. 100pf. The larger size you describe may be due to a larger voltage rating than the other caps on the board. The brown stripe is the **positive** end (stripes are usually the Negative end on electrolytics, but not on SMT caps). Should be available from digikey.com or mouser.com. You may have to buy 50, but they should be US$.10, or so, each. I'd get this verified before going to all the trouble of procuring, but that's my best guess. Anyone else that works with these little beasts is free to jump in! Good luck in your quest. -dave-
