| The Hobbit Peter Jackson, New Line, and MGM have made nice and are gearing up to launch 2 Hobbit projects. One will be an adaptaion of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. The second project is believed to be a bridge between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy - culled from the titanic amount of periphery/ancillary/notated material found in Tolkien's works Two "Hobbit" films are scheduled to be shot simultaneously, similar to how the three "Lord of the Rings" films were made. Production is set to begin in 2009 with a released planned for 2010, with the sequel scheduled for a 2011 release... Peter Jackson to produce `The Hobbit' - Yahoo! News ![]()

Also did you know that Saul Zentz who controls the Tolkien properties filed his own lawsuit against New Line Cinema, stating they owe him a bunch of money also. I might not accept The Hobbit Movie, unless Peter Jackson is also directing it.

| It's officially official! After months of rumored talks, Guillermo del Toro has signed on to direct The Hobbit, the next installment in the Lord of the Rings series, as well as its sequel. The director is diving in to his new project full-on: Del Toro is moving to New Zealand for the next four years to work with LOTR director Peter Jackson's production teams — ostensibly to learn the ways of Middle Earth at the heart of it all. He also faces a huge amount of material to tackle, as both films, which he's shooting back-to-back, will cover a 60-year period, leading up to where The Fellowship of the Ring begins... http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...goryid=10&cs=1

| Re: The Hobbit If it's not to be Jackson directing (at least he's producing) I can't think of a cooler choice than del Toro. This is very exciting news.

| Re: The Hobbit Sorry to say, this project could be going on hold for quite awhile. The heirs and board that governs the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien have filed a lawsuit, in United States District Court in Los Angeles, stating that they are owed over a $150 billion dollars of profits from the movies, due to the fact that when they sold the movie rights in the late 60's/early 70's there was a clause in the contract that whoever ultimately made the movies, in this case it was New Line Cinema, had to pay them a portion of the profits from the movies. They have asked the judge who will be handling this lawsuit, to place a court ordered hold on The Hobbit Movies, until New Line Cinema pays them the money they are owed, due to the clause in the contract, from when they originally sold the movie rights, that they are owed a bunch of money from the profits of the Lord Of The Rings Movies. The lawsuit by the Tolkien Estate was filed back in February. ABC News: Tolkien Lawsuit to Halt 'Hobbit' Movies?

| del Toro is a good choice and should do an excellent job, especially since the early front runner for the directing gig was rumored to be Sam Raimi

| Re: The Hobbit I read on SCIFI Wire awhile back, that Ian McKellan was ready to reprise his role as Gandalf, if he was asked to do so.
