Angry How Best Buy F***ed me and I didn't even get a kiss...

ok, I bought a brand new case with a power supply...

Open the box... there is supposed to be a little box that has all the mounting screws in it... well, it's empty.. i figure.. ***.. some dumb chick over in china getting paied $.03 an hour forgot to put the screws in the box.... i'll bring it back tomorrow and get a new one.....

but for experiment I pull the brand new power supply out of the new case and hook it up to my old rig and see if the machine will start up cuz i still can't figure if it was the case switch that died or the power supply...

(I have a thread in other componiants and perpetuals for troublshooting FYI....)

keep in mind my current power supply still lights up my mobo led even though when i hit the power button the machine don't kick on...

plug the new power supply into the old machine... nothing... the mobo led don't even come on... the new power supply is deader than ****ing jerry garcia..

so i take a look at the box that the case came in..
on the bottom of the box there is one strip of clear packing tape keeping the box closed..

on the top of the box i notice there are two strips of clear packing tape.. one placed neetly over the other... ***?

In short, There is no doubt I was sold a product, that for whatever reason, was returned, resealed and sold as new...

To say i'm ****ing ****** is an understatment...

I would return the thing tonight but i'm so ****** I would prolly punch someone out....

Tomorrow I will go back and demand to speak the the highest ranking employee, and demand a full cash refund. No exchange, no credit.. A ****ing full $136.00 refund..

And i'm gonna wear my abx zone t shirt and tell the guy, "you see this shirt, this is a tech forum I belong to that has over 17,000 registered members and I am going to tell them the story of how best buy ****ed me.. And while most of them prolly won't even read the thread, some of them will and I can guarantee some of them will have a real bad taist in there mouths for your store's nationwide chain..."

Sorry for the spelling mistakes, I'm so ****** I'm literaly shaking...

thanks for the rant....

did u do anything else with that supposed "new" power supply? do you test any other individual components??? maybe it is your board or case switch which is the problem, which i would have checked first considering it would be a way less costly thing to check out.

but to complain about best buy, yea they suck! i bought my mom a cd player for her car on her birthday and i hooked it up myself cause they rip ya off installing it. everything comes out fine except when i try to put a cd in....turns out there was someone who must have owned this last's cd. they sold me a "new" product which someone returned. jerks...

It isn't the spelling mistakes, but all the f'ingheimers are a little hard to handle...

I'm sorry for your experience, normally when Best Buy resells an open item it is clearly marked and usually has a small discount attatched to it as well.
They should make it right with you...

In the meantime are you familiar with the old 'jump the green and black wires on the power supply?'
You can fire it up not connected to anything...but you should at least have a fan connected to it or you can risk damage...

Hope it works out - it sucks to feel taken advantage of...and way to go on the t-shirt...

i bought an open box Sony 200 disc cd jukebox/player from them about 7 years ago. i also bought the 4 year warranty for it. I brought it in 3 times to get it fixed, on the 4th time i would have got a refund, but the 4th never came. they replaced everything inside between the 3 times i brought it in. worked great afterwards. The warranty was a good deal on that because the amount of parts/labor they put in was over $1000.00 for my $250.00 cd player

I asked the salesman about the warranty on it and he said i had a year of coverage. I figured that would be fine.. it was an antec case with a 380 power supply built in..

it's not so much that it was defective that bothers me.. it's the fact that it is clear as day that the thing was returned and then resealed and restocked...

that ****** me off to no end.......

Sorry to hear

Have seen similar complaints about Big Box boys re-shelving items, i.e., video cards. Never had any bad luck personally. Sorry about yours. Their refund policy should be good.

IMO - I would take my 136 and head to newegg. Never had a hassle with those folks - and their stuff is cheaper.

Let us know how it goes.

That sucks about your experience. You should have no problems with the return. If they give you any grief, just ask for the store manager. The more noise you make at customer service the better the results. My son works at Best Buy in the car stereo department. He has to go up front to customer service if there is a car stereo return, and he tells stories of people who return stuff that isn't even what he sold them. They will put a $200 stereo in a $600 box and insist that is what was inside. With car stereo's they actually have to remove the product to inspect it before it leaves the department to insure it is correct and all parts are there, and these people do it in the same shift he is working. He will sell it to them one hour, and two hours later they bring it back with a different stereo. They put up a stink at the front counter, and they get what they want.

As for how it happened...sounds like someone was a crafty theif. The girls at the front counter aren't trained to detect tampered packages, so for $6 an hour, they hear the customer say they never opened it and take it at face value if it doesn't look opened. If you just need a new case now, I would make a computer section geek pull it out of the box and inspect it before it goes in your cart if you exchange it.

I hear ya. cuz i really don't want to be an A hole to some kid making 6$ at the return counter.. that's why I would rather discuss the issue with a store manager..

I have cooled down now, after 8 xanax and a bottle of bolla pinot grigio.. but i do plan to show the manager how the box has been double taped and will at least expect and explanation on how this could have happened and still get charged full price...

don't they at least test the returns before they restock them?

I lost 2 hours+ trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.. that on top of working a 13 hour day aint my idea of fun....

BTW.. i just tested the "new" psu in my curent running fine, system just to make sure i'm correct in my assumption and the new psu is dead as a freakin jimi hendrix,...

Comp usa next time... it's four times the drive time... but worth it.. never had aproblem with comp.. only shopped at best buy 4 times, and the first three times was just to buy games... so for a purchase like this to have a problem like this, well, they lost my buisness... plain and simple..

thanks for letting me rant...

if anyone else has run into this problem with best buy (or anyone else for that matter) I would love to hear about it....

always respectfully yours....

I work in Grand Forks as a tech and its amazing what happens - most of the time they say it looks good and just reseal it the customer service people dont really care what happens as long as they dont get yelled at I see crazy stuff like this all the time so it doesnt come as a surprise to me

everything that is defective we send away to get it fixed then sell it when it comes back and sometimes it takes several tries for them to fix it and anything you buy you should get a service plan and when it does break expect to be without the unit for several weeks

we have this new process where laptops go to 2 special places to get repaired and several of them got lost or just never came back and a lot of them came back in pieces so needless to say I had a lot of ****** off people I had to deal with and all we can do is send it back to be repaired and be gone for another month again

The outcome if this morning's visit to best buy.

Well, I went to best buy this morning.... At first they gave me some hassle about the box being open and only getting a replacement or store credit.. So I asked real nicely to talk to the girl’s superior…

BTW not only were the mounting screws missing but the psu cord was missing, forgot to mention that one...

Anyway, I told him I tested the machine I was working on with a spare psu I had on hand. And that the machine fired up fine, (o.k. I lied about that part..) But it's a fact that the psu is dead, I tried the new one on my current working rig and it was still dead...

Well, back to best buy story…

I told him about the tape and how the top of the box had two layers of tape on it and How I suspected that “someone had resealed and returned the box” (Notice I didn’t accuse them of resealing it) Then the manager has enough gaul to tell me that is standard packing procedure to use two layers of tape to seal the box and was very hostile in informing of this. Almost in a tone insisting I’m some kind of frigging moron or such.. He had a real nasty attitude. Witch is unfortunate, because respect is a two way street inmy book…

Now I’m starting to get just a little annoyed, so I flipped the box over and showed him that the bottom of the box had only ONE layer of tape sealing the box. And then asked him why a company would use two layers on the top of the box and only ONE strip on the bottom of the box, where the weight of the product inside would have more of a bearing load Than the top of the box? Get it? This side up sort of thing?

Well, he had no reply to that what so ever and just rolled his eyes to the girl who was working the counter (who I originally spoke to and asked to speak to the manager..…) Now I’m really getting “annoyed” Cuz I thought they are supposed to have a “hassle free” return policy, Christ, I just bought the frigging thing last night.. ***? But I’m keeping totally cool, Cuz my Jedi master trained me well to resist the temptation of the dark side…

Well, he said that they were gonna test the psu. I said fine.. But I want to watch... So I went behind the counter with the guy. who, frankly was being much more of a dick than I was (I was very calm about the whole situation)

He opened the box, took a look inside.. Then asked me if this was exactly how the items inside the case were when I opened the box (totally lose and rolling around in the case) the fans, the little plates for the back of the pci and agp slots, etc...

I replied, yes (witch was the truth, and frankly, kinda surprised me when I first opened the box when I got it home last night, but just figures antec was sloppy)

I then waved my hand in a suggestive motion and said "you WILL give me a full cash refund". (An old Jedi mind trick I learned back a few years ago)
The force is strong within me....

He then closed the cover, without ever testing the psu. (Good thing I didn't have to use force choke on him)

Two min later I had the cash in my hand...

Even he could tell I had been screwed over... But wouldn’t admit it…

End of story.. now I gotta pull the working psu out of my new working rig and hook it up to the old one… that’s gonna be a pain in the ***. But I prolly should have just done that from the beginning to avoid this whole mess…
