"The risk of personal injury is much higher with a double-bladed lightsaber, and their practical applications around the home are limited. Therefore, it is probably best to save your money and stick with the single-blade version."

Thumbs up

That was great!

The one thing I have always wondered about lightsabers is what stops the beam from going longer than the three or four feet that it does from the handle? By that I mean what prevents the beam from going on forever like a phaser? Is there someone with a Star Wars technical manual who could explain?

Only thing I found was this:

Blade Generation

Energy from the crystal energy change is converted into arc wave energy, which is visible as the blade of the lightsaber.

The power and length of the blade may be adjusted to fit the specific circumstances, depending on the energy output of the material that the blade will encounter. Most common materials are relatively low energy compared to a lightsaber blade. Other the other hand, encounter with another lightsaber blade calls for higher energy, and therefore higher power output, characteristics.

* Blade energy channel - a long, hollow chamber where arc wave generation takes place.
* Cycling field energizers - energizers which are external and parallel to the blade energy chamber. Modulation of these results in the crystal energy chamber output being converted into arc wave energy.
* Energy modulation circuits - provides feedback to drive the cycling field energizers.
* Blade arc tip - tip of blade energy chamber. From this point, the arc wave energy becomes a visible blade.

I need to get me a lightsaber...preferably a duel edged lightsaber like the one Darth Maul used in The Phantom Menace

I'm not a fan of star wars, and always thought these were not real weapons, but have been proven wrong. Are thse things seriously dangereous, and could I order one and just keep it in the house? Would it be safe for a careful 12 year old like myself to have? Also, where can I buy one? http://howstuffworks.shopping.com/xD...er~V-rows~PG-3 howstuffworks brings me there and some of those are 30 bucks, some are 400, which are proper?

The blade length adjustment, of course! Every lightsaber has one.

The $30 units won't stand up to a good Sith beating.

Underwater, could I get a link to one medium quality one, a good quality one, and a superb quality lightsaber? I might decide to have my parents order me one later if possible, but I do really want to know which one to go with. I'm not a star wars fan or anything, but always did think light sabers were cool from other things as well (Mmorpgs, rpgs, etc).
