Personally I enjoy seeing what people have in their avatars and their sigs. What is there is part of who we are and gives each of us an extra insight into tha things that are important to each of us. Junk to you - treasures to others!
BTW you can turn off viewing avatars and sigs in your user cp if you want to so, do that and let the rest of us enjoy what we want to see.

Yeah, they help me enjoy myself here. What great contribution are you currently making besides attacking, ridiculing and grandstanding against other members? With your arrogant, smug, smart-*** attitude, I really kind of hope you don't bother sticking around to get an avatar.

"...What great contribution are you currently making besides attacking, ridiculing and grandstanding against other members? With your arrogant, smug, smart-*** attitude..."
aww, beautifull. Name calling is a great comeback, congratulations!
"...Yeah, they help me enjoy myself here..." yep. That's my point exactly.
"...I really kind of hope you don't bother sticking around to get an avatar..."
well, not exactly, second part of my point was that i dont want to force other readers see pointless junk, not even mentioning forum server's load...
here's a thought: if i was the desigion maker of this forum, i'd give avatars only to those, who donated some minimal amount of money, $10 let's say. Then it would really make donators stand out...
edit: and stop insane 300 posts race :tide

You make a very good point. I think that is an excellent idea. People who contribute financially like you said should automatically get an avatar. That is another very substantial way of showing support and contributing. I'm sorry if my wanting to enjoy myself here offends you but if I am not having fun, why should I bother coming? And yes, I owe you an apology for the insults. I am not prone to losing my temper but it has been a long day and I'm very tired. I'm sorry for what I said. I accuse you of attacking others and I reply by doing the same thing to you.

Here's a novel idea. If you don't like anything about this place why do you stick around? It's not like you are making any friends with your attitiude problem that you have.

how about this idea: donators have avatars and ONLY donators can vote\rate other posters. Whoever gets most votes, monthly, let's say, gets an avatar.
mods (bow in their direction) can choose avatar-receivers at any time, of course.

There are many ways of contributing as well as financially. Those who can contribute financially should do so but it should not be held against those who are unable to do so at this time. We have students, people on pensions, those who are out of work and those who have had unexpected expenses (such as medical bills) who contribute in many other ways and are valued for that.
Sooner or later Skully's hero/heroines list or donations of admiration will catch up with them as well as the Choo-Choo thread.
In case you think I'm making an excuse for not making a financial donation myself, I have donated financially to AB, will soon make another one, have 2 donations of admiration in mind and have had someone donate in my name under donations of admiration.

I'm almost to the 300 post mark, and once I get there I'm gonna donate some money, not much either 10 15 or 20, all I need is Ozzie to let me use his credit card number for it and I'd reimburse him. I can't wait till I get my avatar though.

Borodar, could you please let people have their own opinions? If you don't like them having their avatars or whatever you're complaining about then just don't bother communicating with them, it's not like you can really do anything about it anyways, besides make the rest of us slightly agitated.

Must say I find the avs cool. Shows a little something about the poster. My pages load pretty damn quick, if I was on dial up I would probably turn them off. The 300 post thing I don't see as a big deal.

borodar, you better back off pal... Brian C and territorian have done way more for this board than you could imagine, and I don't like seeing them getting slammed so carelessly. Show some respect or take a hike....

Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrgggghhhhhh! Just offer that pic as the beginners avatar till they get 300 posts-they might not mind not having one.

I only have an average of slightly under 5 posts per day. So that calculates into something like 60 days or two months. Considering I had the CUSL2, I had a lot of posts but I find it hard to believe I reached 300 that quickly. It was probably more like six months because I was still posting a lot on the LinuxNewbie.org site (once they changed the site, my 1500+ posts were gone ). What I like is having a member number under 1,000.

i am in no way against people having their opinions, i was simply expressing mine. Actually, from tone of your post, it seems like you are against me having different thoughts about this matter.

slammed? i only used them as examples, their posts were last 2 i've read when stumbled upon this thread. Here's your numbers:

edit: had to turn avatars on for that 11105x1621= 18MB :tide

"...Show some respect...
in which way i was disrespectful? In the way that i grabbed calculator and showed how those avatars+sigs add up? What do u mean by Show some respect ?

"...or take a hike...."
ty, that's a great idea, i like hiking, and as soon as u explain what u mean by showing respect i'll be happy to choose between this two great options

I see things have heated up a tad here among some members. I hate when that happens. C'mon folks... chill out a bit before it gets too ugly.
