Hang in there, PR. Having been in the workforce a long time, I know what it's like to feel disillusioned. I think you have the talent and people skills to find something better, if you so choose.

PR...You have been saying this for a long time now....it must REALLY be getting you down. I think you should start at least "looking" for something else so if you do happen to find something you can give them the "take this job and shove it" routine!

If not....you still have your PITA job now to pay the bills with.

Good luck, friend!

If your employers aren't interested in giving you the work and responsibities that you're educated and trained for then you should find another place indeed. It's not good for the psyche being in a job you're not happy with, especially if you think it's dead end.

I actually am eyeing a job with the same employer but different agency. I know enough about the position that I even know when it will open up but I'm using my current anger to drive me into a much more dedicated desire to learn new technologies. I do also happen to have a contract to build an application for a customer (small family business) on my own time which also entails me to work with php and mySQL. That at least will provide me with some of the exposure I will need to show for applying for new jobs. I have also figured out something to do for the church I attend that I believe I can also put down as experience using php and postgreSQL. See, I really am not fuming on my chair at work on this with inactivity of moving on. It was that just today I had something that happened that took me over the edge with really hating this current job.

Hmmm, I guess the addition onto the house and seeing my savings disappear makes me feel more stuck with my current job does not help either.

Sorry to hear that old friend. Everyone else has stated their insights so eloquently, that i can fell no justice in coalescing my 2 cents into the picture.

I will say however, good luck, and I hope that you find the right job to make you happy. I would personally be looking for new one. Life is too short not to be happy.

Too bad you don't live in NYC. We have a few job openings that you might qualify for, Systems Analyst, Applications Analyst, System Administrator, Data Administrator, Help Desk Manager... These jobs are so hard to fill here that I can get a $2K reward for recruiting someone . This is an awsome institution to work for too...

Sounds like you like where you live though. I love my job but I may leave and move to another part of the state or even the country. Real estate prices are just too damn high on Long Island.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that statement, pointreyes. I would've been outta the military ALOT sooner if I hadn't of been so accustomed to that monthly check that came in every month. My wife and I REALLY wanted me to get out,,,,,but, we had so many debts built up with the $$$ that we were used to getting, that it really scared us to even try to make it in the Dog-Eat-Dog world. Why do you think military reenlistment is so high, the money isn't all that bad these days,, so lower enlisted and junior officers build up that debt and put themselves into a situation to where they almost HAVE to reenlist..........

Just like you said pr, it's like being stuck between a Rock and a Hardplace

I just read a Consumer Reports article on how shady lenders actually prey on these people. (here) Very sad. I always thought that the military was good prep for getting a good job in civilian life. I guess I fell for the TV ads.
