| That is a pretty general question so I suggest you read up with a decent guide like this one from Tom's hardware Building Your Own PC, Part 1: Know-How for Do-It-Yourselfers | Tom's Hardware There are many such guides if you don't like that one. Abit would not be my first choice in motherboards even though the one I have has served me fairly well. I just don't care for their layouts more then anything, but if you have any Abit specific questions then I would look over at the Abit forums here: Universal abit USA Forums - Powered by vBulletin They have some knowledgeable members there and is a pretty decent board (just not as good as this one

| Intel D975XBX2 if you have the cash or Intel DP965LT. Intel boards are, without question, the best boards for beginners. They are stable and all the documentation that come with Intel boards are written in proper english.

| main thing is to lose the prescott. that will seriously bottleneck that G80. get a C2D even 4 series if you have to. Great choices on mobos above too, especially the former.

| Your motherboard plays a very tiny role in the overall performance of your PC. The difference in speed between each motherboard is negligible. The motherboard is designed to support and connect your other components and it's those components that make your computer faster, not the motherboard. You should buy a motherboard based on features, manufacturer support, and stability. IMHO Intel boards are the best for the latter 2, but lack in features. If you don't overclock and don't use all the junk that Taiwanese manufacturers throw into their motherboards, get an Intel board (although the D975XBX2 is the first Intel board, ever, to feature a full range of overclocking options). I made a related comment at the former DFI-Street forum (now DIY-Street).

| wow John you realy explained everything. So do you have a link for an Asus you would recomend with the same stats because I have the rest of the parts already; (sort of backwards I know)? Price being from $100 to $150 or any that you would see as worth the money and not to expensive.

| I agree with John's recommendations. Intel, Asus, and Gigabyte are the only way to go for me. The Intel Bad Axe 2 is out of your price range, so the DP965LT would suit you fine if you don't overclock or don't need all those fancy features. The Asus P5B series are worth looking at and Gigabyte's P965 boards seem to be pretty popular among overclockers also. If it were me, I'd get the Intel DP965LT and save myself headaches, but you should take a look at the mentioned boards and see which one appeals to you the most.

| I've got one for you, it's the ASUS P5N32-E SLI board, same motherboard I have, and here's a link to it. The P5N32-E SLI board is the brother to the Striker Extreme. ASUSTeK Computer Inc. I really like my board, it's faster and more stable than the ABIT AT8 32X I had. I wouldn't have to have a soundcard, because of the ADI 1988B 7.1HD codec that also does DTS Surround sound, and comes on its own little soundcard, but I already own the HT Omega Claro CMEDIA 8788HD soundcard, which I really like and still use constantly.
