Re: Lamborghini Ferruccio

Looks like a Murciélago and a Hummer H2 had a baby. The horror. I thought a Murciélago would have higher standards than Hummers when it came to conceptual automotive sex partners.

Re: Lamborghini Ferruccio

From the standpoint of appearance, my favorite among the fairly well known exoticars has been the plain old low-end Ferrari 308 series: Ferrari 308 GTB - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Classy, elegant, sophisticated in an understated way.

Re kONGO's comment about "conceptual automotive sex partners," the Jaguar XK-E was once described in one of the automotive magazines as being "the ultimate road-going phallic symbol." Hard to argue with that: Jaguar E-type - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Following is a list, with pictures, of "The 100 Most Beautiful Cars of All Time," according to readers of "The Daily Telegraph" in the UK. The Jag finished no. 1! I myself much prefer the appearance of the Lambo Miura, Aston Martin DB series, or, in totally different veins, the 1930's Duesenbergs, the Morgans, or rarities like the 1960's French Facel Vega (no relation at all to the 1970's Chevrolet Rustbucket Vega).

The 100 most beautiful cars of all time: Beauties and beasts - Telegraph

Getting back to the real world, though, my wife and I are content with our Honda's! Which include a 1999 Prelude sports coupe -- really nice for the price, and sadly discontinued.

Regards,
-- Al

I had a look through the 100 most beautiful cars of all time and came to the sudden realization that people shouldn't be allowed to vote...

This car was voted 2nd most beautiful...

The Citroën toad is a pretty nice-looking car. Very futuristic for a 50's model, and even more so when it comes to the features. It also had the coolest steering wheel of all time. A single spoke.

Sorry, I don't get it.... No mention of a 64 Impala SS, Datsun 240Z, or 55 chevy, but the Eldorado get's the nod...
A good portion of the cars on the list were real yawners at best.

Re: Lamborghini Ferruccio

Yup ugly is ugly. I'd say they need to smoke another one! Less than half the cars should even be on the list.

Re: Lamborghini Ferruccio

While I would not have placed it at no. 2, or even in the top 10, the Citroen DS series definitely belongs on the list, imho, and was one of the more notable and extraordinary cars of all time, in many ways. Please read the Wikipedia writeup on it:

Citroën DS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some quotes from therein:

"The DS came in third in the 1999 Car of the Century competition, recognizing the world's most influential auto designs."

"The DS placed fifth on Automobile Magazine's '100 Coolest Cars' listing in 2005"

"The DS has been used in many film and television productions, has inspired artists, and was associated with the French state and French society for many years."

"The iconic shape of the DS continues to lead to use in a number of popular music videos, TV series and films"

"Outside of France, the car's radical and cosmopolitan design appealed to non-conformists. A United States advertisement summarised this selling point: 'It takes a special person to drive a special car.'"
Aside from its styling, as indicated in the writeup it had many notable technical features as well.

I suppose it can be likened to modern art -- some people will get it and some will not; some people will love it and some will hate it, and neither group is necessarily right or wrong. Personally, although it is not one of my favorites, I'd take it any day over most modern semi-luxury sedans (that was the class that it was in) that suffer from terminal blandness.

Regards,

-- Al
