Actually it was the British. The French just cry into their poutine and complain about how the rest of Canada is oppressing their culture.

One thing though, I think we'll have to continue to teach you Americans how to play hockey. Lesson One started in Salt Lake City last year. =) j/k

That day just shows you how much hockey defines us up here. The entire country pretty much shut down that day and watched the game. I was at work that day, and we had brought the TVs out from the staff room to watch while we worked. And I work in a busy incoming call centre. (~500 calls a shift) Every single call that came in, you could hear the game on..

Ah.. Hockey.. and the contempt we have for Quebec and Toronto.. The things that unite us Canadians. =)

Why the hell do I need to move to France.

I SPEAK ENGLISH, geez.

And by the way, our provincial election is cooming up and from the looks of the polls so far, it seems that the PQ are on the way out, which means that for the time being, the notions of sovereignty will die out for a while too.

Finally.

Actually Canada didn't exist as an independent country until 1867, so you should really restrict the 'blame' to Britain.

Ya really, I mean

1000 millimetres in 1 metre
1000 metres in 1 kilometre
1000 millilitres in 1 litre
1000 milligrams in one gram
1000 grams in one kilogram

How the hell is anyone supposed to remember all that? Awww, yes, the British Imperial System.

12 inches in 1 foot
3 feet in 1 yard
1,760 yards in 1 mile
16 drams in 1 ounce
16 ounces in 1 pound
16 ounces in 1 pint
2 pints in 1 quart
4 quarts in 1 gallon

Canada didn't exist as an independent sovergin (confederated)county but upper/lower canada existed and people living there were referred to as Canadians. It is ture that they were still British subjects, and depending on your definition still are.

So this would be true, post 1867.

With regards to annexing Canada:

Wouldn't it make more sense for the Western States and Western Canadian provinces to joint together and make our own country?

Just think:

Hawaii, Alaska, Yukon, North West Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.

Fishing, Forestry, Skiing, Hotspring, Surfing, Camping, Mountain Climbing, Hiking, Wildlife, Cattle, Wheat, Vegetables, Wine, "Silicon Valley", Computer Programmers & Developers, Los Vegas, Cruise Ships, Pacific Rim Clients, etc..

Instead of sending our tax dollars to the "far east", then we could send our tax dollars to a centralized location which recognizes that there is a West coast beyond the Rocky Mountains.

Anybody else like the idea?

Actually post 1815. I think the border was, for the most part, specified by the Treaty of Paris which ended the War of 1812.

California and Montana part of the same country? Impossible, it would never work.

cmon matic is tha best. its so easy to learn and you dont have weird numbers like three quarters of an inch. I love to see the expression on peoples faces when i say things in metric.

anyway metric is better. i also prefer to spell "meter" like so instead of metre. and center like so instead of centre. and i dont put u's in my colors.

Why would they waste their time simulating nukes on Canada? Give me a couple fluffy pillows and some quasi-mean chihuahua's (cause they can talk) and I could single-handedly take over Canada.
What the physicist should be calculating is exactly how many attack dogs I'd need... it'd probably still be 11.

I have no problems with the metric system however.

I could go for the metric system, and I use a tape measure everyday. Might take some time to adjust, but would be worth it. Given a chance to rename the 2"x4" to reflect its actual size would we nice Although going back to a true 2x4 would be a good idea with todays lumber, so do both at the same time, and identify it with metric
