LOL, wicked reading. I can't believe i missed this thread, gorgs canadian lists are hilarious and too true ( i'll have to email those around). Canada rocks, too bad that the prime minister makes us look bad, he's from the eastcoast anyways so he doesn't represent the REAL canadians. hehe.

Great thread

I don't mean to flame anyone, and thanks for the link lenko. However, I don't feel that I can 'sign' the petition the way it's written. The preamble is fine, but the open letter to the PM makes it sound like Canada should support the US because of possible 'economic' ramifications of withholding support. Frankly, if I believed that what the US was doing was wrong, I would be willing to suffer any 'relatiation'. However, my belief is that the US is doing the right thing and that Canada should be offering what support it can because our close friend and neighbour is fighting in a just cause. The fact that the current government is withholding this support sickens me. The leader of my country is, unfortunately, a disgusting, cynical, sleazy weasel of a politician. It's too bad people like that actually manage to succeed in becoming leaders.

Not my petition as I saw a news report on this on local Station, so I thought i'd post it. I too had similar feeling as you regarding the message not being strong enough, but it was already on the web and easy to pass around. I'm sure stronger worded messages and petitions will abound.

I agree with you deadkenny, it embarasses me as a canadian that we would not be backing the US in this war (although i wouldn't diss the PM as a person).

Front page of paper:

OTTAWA -- The U.S. ambassador to Canada yesterday dropped the diplomatic gloves over Iraq and bluntly declared Americans were "disappointed" and "upset" their northern neighbours had opted not to join the military campaign to oust Saddam Hussein.

He went on to say that if Canada suffered a security risk the US wouldn't hesitate to be there for support. This is the role that canada should have played, if we couldn't offer military support then we sure as hell should be there 100% for moral support.

Sorry to stray off the topic..... I AM CANADIAN! CANADA ROCKS

Maybe I'm a bit 'over the top', but I'm really angry about this and feel like I need to vent. I too am very proud of my country. This one definitely belongs on the head of the PM.

OK, there are solutions, although it may take a little work to construct or find them. One option is putting together a web page just like the one at www.wesupporttheusa.ca, but change the wording to something that suits your ideals. Of course, for that you also have to locate a recipient for your petition. Alternatively, there must be political action committees in Canada--as we have in the USA--that promote a variety of political viewpoints to your government, including one more supportive of the war effort than this one. The advantage there is that it will already be in place and have the appropriate contact(s) to forward your concerns to your government.

I like the way people say Canada. I can't help but pronounce it with 3 syllables. But then again I pronounce Quebec with a K. Blasted French class in High School mucked me to much.

I don't really want to annex all of canada, I just want BC and New Foundland. BC because it is beautiful, and New Foundland because they probably won't just give us St Johns...we will have to take the whole territory. St Johns for those who haven't been, is one of the biggest party towns north of the mason dixon line. In fact, the only city I have seen that parties harder is New Orleans.

hehe, feeling gray?

PR,

How do you say Toronto? Most say Tarana.

I always sucked at french in high school. I got through it enough to suit my needs but beyond that forget it. German on the other hand is no problem for me.

Well, I guess they have lots of practice. I mean, if you live in Newfoundland, what else do you have to do but party.

There's 'a's in Toronto? Strange is that the way most people say it? I thought it was To-ront-o. Maryland is another one that always throws me. If we would pronounce it Mary Land then it would not denote the way Marylanders speak. We have a tendency to slur our words; hence Mareland. And Washington State is pronounced Washington but Marelanders pronounced the nation's capital (which on the Internet notes that the British burnt not the French) Warshington - and since Mareland gave the land er, swamp for the capital it really is correct to pronounce it the way us Marelanders do.
