mainstream microprocessor???

I,m currently a college student, and i,m working on a project bout microprocessor..

The question is:
Two of the mainstream microprocessor types...


What do u guys think it should be??
amd athlon and the other one intel (p3 or p4)..

hope u guys could give me some ideas

thats intersting..what area of the cpu's are you concentrating on??
for current processors i would say go with the Athlon and P4....
the p3 would be good, but the p4 is technically newer..so...
just my 0.02c

actually I,m concentrating on the mainstream processor,
can the p4 be consider as mainstream processor, at this time?

If you haven't found the answer yet, I would say its RISC and CISC
ex.
RISC-Apple, DEC Alpha
CISC-PentiumX, Athlon
