Man dies in his sleep from breathing in his own farts.

A terrible diet and room with no ventilation are being blamed for the death of a man who was killed by his own gas. There was no mark on his body but an autopsy showed large amounts of methane gas in his system. His diet had consisted primarily of beans and cabbage (and a couple of other things). It was just the right combination of foods. It appears that the man died in his sleep from breathing the poisonous cloud that was hanging over his bed. Had he been outside or had his windows been opened, it wouldn't have been fatal, but the man was shut up in his near airtight bedroom. According to the article, "He was a big man with a huge capacity for creating 'this deadly gas.'" Three of the rescuers got sick and one was hospitalized.

Sorry - needed to lighten the load...other interesting reading here...http://www.snopes2.com/

I think I'll leave a window open at night from now on.

"This deadly gas" is hilarious, makes me think of Dave Letterman screaming "You cookin' beeeans?!".

I stumbled on it as I was researching a hoax about a Nostradamus quote I had found...I wouldn't normally seek something like this out on purpose.

I thought we could use a little tension breaker after the past couple days...

Kind of gives a new ring to the rhyme - Beans, Beans, the musical fruit...

That's pretty sick. I've actually seen that one before. It was a Darwin award reject. Rejected because it couldn't be confirmed at an official level (police reports, coroner's report etc.). Doesn't mean it isn't true, but it might just be an urban legend. Some of the confirmed cases were pretty sick / funny (whatever) too.

It's amazing all of you can be so heartless. We have this poor dead guy that by no fault of his own, died under a tragic circumstance. Methane gas poison is nothing to laugh at. Ten people, globally, die of this rare unfortunate gasous anomoly, at least, every year only to be victims of ridicule such as the comments from the uncaring members of this forum.I suppose if some errant ignition source were to ignite the methane cloud resuting posibly in multiple deaths and major property damage, people here would find that humorous as well. You all should be ashamed. sike! I thought it was funny as hell.

If I remember correctly, a person is more at risk of dying from the CO2 they exhale than of the methane present in their flatus....Even if they farted all night long.

...Funny as hell though.

Good thing the rescuers weren't smokers----would have blown them all to he#$......

Speaking of farts.....

this is a no-shi# story.....

I had this sergeant------when we all passed him our beans and weenies from our C-Rations----he'd chuff em all down with a couple of canteens of water........About an hour later, he would amuse us grunts by playing tunes with his farts!!!

Absolutely true!!!

It was amazing....

Ever seen MythBusters?

If yea have, they proved that dieing from your own flatus is impossible...

The eppisode was quite funny really... Adam was sitting in a bathtub with his fart capturing device... hehe...

Quote:
Flatulence Myths
Deadly farts
Myth: A bean-loving man, living in a small poorly ventilated room, suffocated from his own farts.

Adam built a bathtub-based flatus (fart) catcher that trapped the exhaust in a small Flatulence Containment Unit (FCU).
Quote:
Reaching deadly concentrations with flatus
They started with testing the carbon dioxide component, as it can be deadly in high concentrations and it was also present in larger quantities

Affects of CO2 concentrations on human health:

2% cerebral dilation, increased blood pressure, nausea, confusion
8% nausea and vomiting
10% death within minutes
You can check out the story here:
