MSCSE Microsoft Certifcation / Skills Usefullness

So far every one I've talked to says microsoft certfications (people that have them, know people that have them) say they are useless..... any one can take notes, its like taking drivers test, dosen't make you a good driver, we all know how many trained IDIOTS there are....

I know some one thats getting thiers, personally I'd want to pursue C++, advanced use of Visual Basic, Cg, Java/HTML/Shock/Flash, Unix, for more money, as I've been told employeers often ask "what experience do you have" "um I have my certifaction.... heh"

Any certifactions you recommend, whats your opinion on M$ ones? I think you'd be better off being a pro photo-shopper......

I've also heard claims about more pay and getting a job (if they even hire you, ahem exp) from M$ certifcations HOWEVER they aren't high paying jobs, we are talking less then assembly line pay, or any thing else low end... M.I.T. or any where big would probably laugh in your face if you though a M$ certifaction was some thing special.....

First of all, you won't get a respond after 2 hours of your first post.

Second... it not a useless certification. Unless you were talking to a paper mcse or for that matter a paper certified individual. Then you would get an impression of no knowledge. Just in case you don't know what is a paper mcse.. it an individual who never had previous experience, bought the book.. read it and took some cram exam and pass the exam. A properly train mcse goes through hand on experience as well as reading book. If you have alot of experience, then you can get a way with just reading the book to catch up with new stuff.

Third.. there been an increase of number of mcse who cheated to get their certification. by using Brain dump or other form of exam cheating. I know.. I have interview a few candidate and you can really tell the different between someone who knows his stuff and person who just read the book and pass the exam.

I am an MCSE and it sure help me in my career.

MCSE is not the cert you would get if you want to be a programmer. There is a .NET certification there are Sun Certifications for JAVA and other less well known certs. The best would be to get a degree in CS or a similar major. I don't know of any html, flash, or shock certifications.

I don't know how good certifications are or if they help you get a job. From what I hear, certs are more of a tie breaker for employers. No one is going to hire you because you hold a 100 certs but it might put you ahead of someone with similar experience.

I would think M$ certs are actually better then most others because M$ products are everywhere and you need to know them well to do many jobs.

My yougest is an M$CE in W2k and Networking.
I know that it has helped him tremendously in getting a couple of jobs recently with large Corporations. He hasn't taken them, as he is happy with his current job. But, it is a big confidence booster knowing that he would have no trouble getting another job.

I've been doing 2nd level computer support for 9 years now and have never gotten a certification. I've been to several courses, ie Updating skills NT4.0 to W2K, Administering W2K, Photoshop 7.0 etc...

I've never been required to be certified. Our company does pay a $5,000 bonus upon certification.

I agree that it can be the tie breaker, if both people have the same experience levels... If I was looking for a new job I'd be taking cert tests left and right!

Ditto!

It depends on what your plans are, but it could be useful if it works into what you are wanting to do.

Well like I knew, it won't really help you with any high paying job normally, they simply aren't that advanced of a certifcatoin, that makes them that viable to an employeer for what now pays well in the computer world, lets face it we got a good 5 years of people going "its good money I'll do it" with inflated the market some, but now that computers are more common knowledge, there's lots of low level jobs with them, frankly any one who can't do basic computer work simply dosen't want to learn how, its not that they can't.....

There's lots of people with jobs with certifcations, think about how booming fiber optics was, last year every 10 days or some thing one went out of buisness.... every one sees some thing paying out good and rushes to it, and inflates it.....

I think I'd rather be a top administrator for a Unix based server (Linux would be ok too) of computers then M$ server based

I think we know who probably has more traffic, and dependablility that they need for tons of money!

I do believe a Cisco cert would get you a higher paying job compared to a regular IT job...
