The only resemblance to the book is the character names, otherwise it is almost completely changed. It is not worth even renting.

For all you people who like contact, I have some cool trivia, and possibly will get pictures for you guys. The low-level training route we fly southwest from Albuquerque is called the petrified forest low-level. The third turnpoint takes us right across what is known as the VLA valley. VLA are the very low frequency antenae they used in the making of contact. It is a really cool series of antanae that are on railroad tracks. There is a hub in the middle, with tracks coming out at 90 degree arms from the middle. They have inbetween tracks that connect the four arms. So they can move the antenae around as needed for maintenance in the hub station, or to reposition for different signal patterns. I fly over that spot three to four times a week at 300'. It is ususally at night unfortunately, but the next time it is day time, I will have the pilot do a few orbits for time on target "timing" to get some pictures. That is what we call it when we want to check something out. It is often done above Jane Fonda's house near Taos at very low altitudes at 2:00 AM. We love getting the complaint letters from her attourney

I consider a movie good when I'm still "chewing on it" for weeks to come (like I did with the last one trying to understand it).

As for Keanu's acting ability....I don't necessarily disagree (I think Carrie-ann Moss was even worse)... bit i'm thinking more of just the story itself.
completly agree....

there are those out there who proclaim a movie bad if they dont like the effects
