| I have a 30gig ibm h/d. I have WinMe on it right now with one partition. I have partition magic 6.0. I want to change the partition so that I have two 15g partitions. I want to install Win XP on the second one and leave WinMe on the first. Do I make two primary partitions? will I be able to do this with partition magic? Thanks for your help ![]()

| Primary Partition If you have an operating system installed, then that is a primary partition. You should have one primary and one extended partition with whatever kinds of partitions you want to have in the extended partition. Power Quest and their manual can explain it best. I think the easiest way for you to do what you want to do is to 1. extend (widen/ increase) the partition that you operating system is on. 2. Divide it to the desired capacity, ie. enough to instal your second system with the program you want on it and 3 Instal you second op system on it. The remaining portion of your hard drive, ie the extended partition minus the two op systems can be used for programs, storage, etc. An extended partition can also be devided to instal an op system too; thus that portion where the new OS resides automatically become a primary system;however, the physcial positioning is important. I think it must be right next to the first pirmary, that's why I think you should just extend the first primary partition to the adequate capacity needed to instal the second os and its programs then divide it then install the second system...its all explained in the PM manual and good info is available at Powerquest.com. You can also call them toll free too, at least you could last year. good luck and have fun. Remeber to always make a rescue disk. |
