very sad news indeed...I started hearing that he was really sick late last night...it seems his condition has worsened overnight to the point where he has refused to go to the hospital and is content just staying at his residence in the Vatican for his final hours

it seems like there have been reports that he was near death for many weeks and months now...but somehow this feels different and it really looks like this might be it

Once he passes away, the cardinals choose a new pope. It use to be a fairly often event, but many people (myself included) don't remember it happening because he was been Pope for so long.

He is the first non-Italian Pope in a very long time and has had a special gift for reaching out to all people. It will be interesting to see who replaces him.

Yes we are all praying and celebrating his achievements. Quite a great man. Pope John Paul II The Great. I recall when he came to the Jewel. The only place that could hold the crowd was the international airport's aircraft parking apron. We had folks from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and as far away as Jamaica and Florida and Texas. He has touched many lives including world leaders. Like other great leaders maintained his humility. I humbly wish someone from our hemisphere replaces him.

Very well said indeed.

I'm not Catholic, but I do have an immense respect for the man and what he's done. We know you are going, PJPII, so go with great peace.

Im not a catholic but I think he is a man of peace and it was good to see the gesture he would make when he kissed the earth when he landed in a new country.

He's confirmed to have no hope of longer survival... according to the Vatican.

I wish him a well earned eternal rest and pray for his return to the Father.

Amen!
