Signature Spam

Many of us have noticed a lot of bogus posts recently by newly registered users, which are simultaneously posted on numerous other forums, and which appear to be placed for the purpose of placing spam links in the signature (which thankfully our good Forum now prevents, until the member has reached a large number of posts).

I think I now see what's behind all of this. Do a Google search on "forum" + "signature link" (or "signature links"). You'll get around 30,000 hits, many of which pertain to an apparently large market for buying and selling spam signature links. Fascinating.

Regards,

Re: Signature Spam

It seems the bogus posts scams are endless. I must say the recent attempts are a bit less pitiful then we usually get. I guess they have to be a little more clever to get past the post count requirement before posting links. I know I see a lot of people introducing themselves here and then that is the last you ever hear from them. Because of that I have pretty much stopped offering welcomes. This is unfortunate for the few legitimate new members.

Re: Signature Spam

Geez,

it's a big market out there?!?

Well, what else do you expected? It's something you can sell, therfore someone will buy it. Or vice versa.
Someone is trying to make cash, someone is willing to spend it, voila.

Lets make money, more, more, more, more, more .......

Sorry about that rant, but it is just another example of "how human greed is destroying the quality of my social life" (not responding to the occasional welcome thread for example).

Greetings

Dru
